Apparently the police have now upped security around the other wives and girlfriends along with staff family members whilst they are in Qatar.

It now seems it was a burglary while no one was home, which is a relief but no less scary for his family I’m sure. As Harry Kane said ‘family before a game of football’.

What a dreadful experience for this family. The other players must be worried about their family’s safety too.

Not quite as bad as presented. The family were not home when the break in occurred, no-one was in danger, and I think with all the pressures on the police force overpaid footballers could afford to pay to improve their own security.

Well, I hope all Raheem's family are safe and well, although they are bound to be shaken upset, that the house is secure and hope that he will make it back to Qatar to take part in Saturday's match.

I agree with eazybee. No one was home and he earns mega bucks to have the best security.

Earning mega bucks doesn’t mean you’re at fault if crooks break into your home. Footballers are paid dotty amounts of money for a short period of their lives. Stirling gets the going rate, that doesn’t mean he’s to blame if he’s robbed, kidnapped or otherwise subjected to criminal. Ehaviour.

It's not the family's fault, of course it's not, but I do wonder why Sterling's spokesperson (according to the BBC site) reported to the press that armed robbers had broken into the house while the family were inside. Which would have been a horrific experience.

Instead of that the family had been away and arrived home on Saturday evening to find that the house had been broken into and jewellery/watches stolen. The police say there are no reports of the burglars being armed, or of any threats being issued.

The sensationalised reporting must have caused anxiety to people living in that area, surely?

No one said Sterling was to blame for the break-in and he is equally entitled to police protection, just like the rest of us, except that it isn't being offered to the rest of us.

But he is not serving his country, is he; he has deserted just before a crucial match. Most people get a reference number following a burglary, no investigation and no offer of extra protection. Footballers are able to afford security guards to protect their property, (£18,200,000 per annum); most people aren't, and it is unfair that stretched police resources should be targeted on those well able to afford protection.

Crumbs eazybee most people would prioritise family over football, the police aim to protect all, irrespective of their income.

To add, our new chief Constance in Gtr Manchester, announced recently that burglary will be investigated, there will be a police visit. 12 years of demolishing public service has us in the disgusting situation where a crime number was the police response.
