Yes, I agree. But what about all the mistakes that the NHS have made? Still waiting a positive outcome for my mis-diagnosis; someone is accountable but getting them to admit it is another matter. Why should people have to pay to correct someone else's mistakes?

My DH was so against paying for private medical help but he was forces into it because of the long wait for a NHS appointment.

Well I have had to pay for minor op that a decade ago would have been done on the NHS. The stupid thing is that it was carried out in a private clinic within a doctor's surgery by a NHS doctor. Not mine, but local. Go figure.

I paid for a consultant to diagnose my unbearable pain after numerous trips to A & E. It was my gall bladder, but I went on to have it removed on the nhs.

Being able to make a GP appointment by calling in to the surgery instead of being in a queue of 40+ on the phone then a GP calling you back if you are lucky before all the appointment slots are gone by 9am after opening at 8.30am. When you are at work earlier how can anyone hang on a phone for 30+ minutes to get an appointment or not.

Apart from losing the freedom to travel round Europe with most borders not even looking at your passport I think the worst loss is continuity of care from a GP. DH and I had two GPs that we would normally see. Both knew us well and were au fait with all our medical problems, but both have now retired. Now if I get to speak to a GP it's always one I've never met and we spend most of the phone call finding out who I am, why I wanted to speak to someone, and what was wrong with me in the first place. Why do they phone without having all this information in front of them? There's no "How have you been since I last saw you?" or "How are you finding this treatment are you having any problems with it?"

But they can manage operations to give penises to transmen. I'm pretty sure the NHS was not set up for treatments like that.

It cannot afford to provide all the expensive new drugs and equipment we have today, plus all the new treatments (like penises) that never existed in the past.

Low levels of inflation, freedom of European travel and residence, being able to see a GP, less waiting for NHS treatment, a reliable train service, clean rivers, energy at a reasonable cost....the list is endless and most of it is due to an incompetent series of Tory governments, political opportunism by Johnson, idiots listening to Farage and corruption.
