Male students walk out of an exam in protest at women being banned from university. Brave young men standing as allies. Let’s hope peaceful protests like this continue and are not met with violence.

Golly grannydarkhair that is splendid news. Thank you for sharing it.

hear hear!

maddyone Sat 24-Dec-22 21:36:54

It may be good news but it won’t change anything. That’s the sad bit.

grannydarkhair Sat 24-Dec-22 21:46:28

But we can hope can’t we? If all the men in that age group protested what would the Taliban do? Would they kill them all?

growstuff Sun 25-Dec-22 12:47:07

It's not such good news. Have you seen the videos of the Taliban beating up the men who walked out of their exams?

I fear that, as in Iran, there will be government reprisals.

Well done those young men.
Nothing will change overnight but…it’s a step in the right direction as a younger generation have the desire to be heard at all cost.

As much as I want what everyone else does for Afghanistan, it’s getting worse.

Grantanow Sun 25-Dec-22 13:11:19

I fear that only armed force will ever remove the Taliban but as in Iran the population is unarmed and there is no appetite elsewhere to intervene. I doubt sanctions will have any effect on fanatical Islamists.

These young are the future, it will take time but it will change

Aveline Sun 25-Dec-22 14:40:33

NGOs including Save the Children are leaving as the Taliban have said women can't work there.

lixy Sun 25-Dec-22 14:56:32

Brave men, really hope they are OK.

Aveline, the NGO's will regroup I'm sure, they are also very brave people, but they need to keep staff as safe as they can.

VioletSky Sun 25-Dec-22 15:07:15

It will take time but it will happen.

It wasn't that long ago here women were in disgrace and forced to give away babies born out of wedlock.

We need them to know we are on their side and haven't written these young people off as a lost cause

Galaxy Sun 25-Dec-22 15:09:29

'We' werent on their side though, or we wouldn't have left in such a fashion. This was all going to happen as soon as the withdrawal happened.

VioletSky Sun 25-Dec-22 16:24:19

We aren't all "we"

Many organisations are still helping, UNICEF is one

growstuff Sun 25-Dec-22 17:18:53

I don't know how many times I've read that the West shouldn't interfere. Now people in Iran and Afghanistan have shown amazing bravery, I think the least we can do is show moral support.

BlueBelle Sun 25-Dec-22 17:49:33

I believe two men have already been killed for standing up for the women
I can only hope the new generation will wipe out the awful treatment but it won’t be anything soon I m afraid
Totally true gakaxy

Galaxy Sun 25-Dec-22 18:28:36

Thus is happening because we did withdraw. I am utterly ashamed of how we have behaved with regards to Afghanistan.
