Hancock's indiscretion could cost him millions

Following on from the thread about Hancock and the release of data.

I mentioned that the data would in fact be covered by the data protection act …………

Well guess what😄

Those who were never consulted to allow their data to be revealed are considering suing Hancock.

Personally I think that the government ought to be taking him to court. But of course that will never happen

That was to shazza

Aren’t we all !

It simply shows what type of person we have allowed to influence so much of the political narrative.

Isabel Oakshott is a far right ultra brexit journalist, living with the leader of some absurd party which is more brexitty than the Brexit party.

She and her partner are out to out-brexit Farage.

Just how stupid would Hancock have to be to hand over all his whatsapps to Oakshott?

I must admit I’m struggling to reconcile her views with this leak, there must be more to it than ‘in the public interest’ surely, but I can’t see how Reform would benefit?

I listen to Talk radio/tv when in the car and I aren’t happy that Isabel and Richard Tyce both use the station as a platform for the Reform party which I’m very uncomfortable with. She is another back stabber as we now know. I’m disgusted with the lot of them to be honest.

I would not trust her with my worst tarantula.

It was Oakeshott who broke the story that her ‘friend and confidant’ Vicky Pryce had taken her husband’s speeding points. When Pryce was sent to prison for it I remember someone remarked that Oakeshott was a brilliant journalist, but a terrible friend.

And she told Trump that the British Ambassador had said he was useless.

who is banks, and wigmore ?

Perhaps Hancock should have paid her for writing his book.

MaizieD Thu 02-Mar-23 17:09:35

I'm surprised that Hancock even trusted her to ghost write his memoir after the Cameron/pigs head affair and her disclosure about Banks and Russian influence.

MaizieD Thu 02-Mar-23 17:07:02

Blogger lawyer David Allen Green had something to say about non disclosure agreements today.

Basically, they're not really worth the paper they're written on

Todays statement from Oakeshott - the saga continues

Having signed a non disclosure agreement presumably she will now have to face court action.

Ministers obviously have disagreements on policy and frank opinions of other people and groups, as we all do, but if you can’t trust a colleague who has signed a non disclosure agreement, who can you trust

The opinion I’ve heard so far is that she wont.

Don’t get me wrong - I can’t bear her, but she has played a blinder here.

I also think her revelations about Russian influence in the referendum was also never given the publicity it deserved, and the fact that she was/is a strong brexiter makes it even more impressive.

It's always been obvious that this government are contemptuous of the people who are and have been the backbone of this country.
They have done so much damage and are arrogant enough to call others ar**s.

I don't much like Oakeshott but she has done a public service. Ministers tend to think that what is in the public interest is what they say it is (and not what the public are interested in) but disclosure of what former Ministers thought about teachers, etc. is in in my opinion in the public interest. It demonstrates prejudice amongst those who govern us. I think she and the Telegraph have a good public interest defence. No doubt more is to come. Gagging order anyone?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 02-Mar-23 14:36:34

I’m not sure what happened there but the file reveals a statement by Oakeshott

Oakeshott will have sabotaged her professional standing. She will be vilified by some folk and lauded by others. Personally I feel her action in revealing all has given us, the general public a wider understanding of what really was going on between Ministers and their SPADs.

Isn’t she married to Richard Tice from Reform (previously UKIP)? Ulterior motives at play I suspect.

Absolutely.

Interestingly Oakeshott revealed the links between the Russia and leave campaigners

Isabel Oakeshott had a tip off. A person "high up in govt" with intelligence connections rang Richard Tice who passed it on to her.

This call prompted Isabel Oakeshott to go back into the Banks emails. And make a shock discovery.

This statement has not previously been published.

In it, she says: "I have no doubt that Banks & Wigmore have been acting as agents of influence of the Russian state"

Keeleklogger Thu 02-Mar-23 14:26:57

Matt Hancock gave the messages to Ms Oakeshott as they collaborated on his memoirs. But she subsequently handed them to the newspaper, which has published a series of stories based on the communications with fellow ministers and officials.

This is after signing a legal none disclosure agreement

I wonder how much she got from the newspaper

Why did MPs ever think it was a good idea to chat on WhatsApp?

Bizarre behaviour

Whitewavemark2 Thu 02-Mar-23 14:21:15

fancythat

Is it at all possible that Hancock wanted it all leaked?

Then he would be a bigger fool than anyone could imagine

Fleurpepper Thu 02-Mar-23 14:19:35

I thought Isabel Oakeshott leaked the messages.
But why trust her? She’s a journalist!

She is a lot more than a journalist!!! How anyone could trust her- is truly beyond me. She is a really nasty piece of work.
