I think it was the success with his bendy bananas story that made him realise how gullible people can be. Not that he didn’t lie before that but he realised he could use it to his advantage politically.

Rather strange that none of his best supporters have not commented.

But this is far more important IMO. He was advised not to attend that party in Italy, but chose to go against that advice. Why?

Not only that, but apparently he went straight after attending a high level NATO meeting.

The Russian connection looks so strong in many connected with the Leave campaign. But to be fair, I only get this from people pointing it out on twitter. There may be Remainers with Russian connections. I don't know

More important than all the lies- is his relationship with Russian Oligarchs linked to the KGB- when he had been strongly advised not to visit Lebedev's Mansion in Italy, yert again, as Foreign Secretary. And the fact is was barely compos mentis the day after. Was he drugged or just very drunk. What did he say and divulge. What did he promise, apart from a peerage, and even more importantly, was he filmed and now black-mailed.

This is what really needs a proper and thorough investigation. Being a liar is bad enough, especially when people's lives were lost- but being a traitor of the highest order, is something else. He played right into the hands of Putin, who wanted to split the EU, for greed, so that Putin and friends could keep tons of dirty money in the UK.

I agree. Brexit is already unfolding to be the con trick that it was, and there will be a 'bounce back' and a better trading relationship with the EU.

Absolutely. We gave some money to a campaign he was running and because he’d reached the target needed he reimbursed everyone that contributed afterwards. Can you imagine Johnson doing that? It must break his heart to see the sort of people that the Conservative Party now have as Attorney General just so they can avoid doing things legally. It says everything about Johnson that he made a point of getting rid of Grieve.

Dominic Grieve is one person who comes to mind too.

His insight into Brexit is interesting to say the least. I hadn't seen it before, but the Remain side should have promoted it at the time. There would still have been those who wouldn't believe him but it might have persuaded the uncertain voters that the Leave side were lying.

I have never, and will never, vote Conservative but it doesn't mean I can't recognise a politician of that ilk who actually cares about the country. Look what has happened when those people are side lined because of self glorification!

We have ended up with a cabal who seem to have had an empathy bypass and the Dunning Kruger effect looms large.

I’m pretty sure that the things that John Major has said would be the same arguments that many in the vote remain camp ( eg Ken Clark, Anna Soubry, Keir Starmer, Sadiq Khan etc) gave but they were ignored.Ex Conservative MP’s such as John Major and Michael Heseltine have always held Johnson in contempt and probably despise him even more than I do because he has not only destroyed this country but he has destroyed his own party. Oh and it came out today that Johnson is trying to get a peerage for his father.

No enquiry needed.
So many people, including DP had been wanting to leave the EU for years before Cameron offered us a referendum and tbh lies were told by both sides.
It happened, accept it and move on in my view.

I think most of us have recognised the very doubtful quality of Johnson's utterances in general and certainly in reference to Brexit and the red bus claims. His interview yesterday claiming that the Privileges Committee interim report 'vindicated' him was worthless bluster and persiflage but of course some will choose to believe him as Rees-Mogg and Dorries appear to do. I suspect most of his allies will fold their tents and steal away.

That may well happen as a result of the enquiry into whether he misled parliament. I’m not one for wasting taxpayers’ money on pointless enquiries.

Well if it leads to him being suspended and a Constituency election, it will be worth every penny.

What’s the point of spending money on an enquiry? It won’t change anything.
