callistemon I think in a way the point isn’t about one particular business head, but the way that business is now coming to the conclusion that the Tories are no longer to be depended on, (look at the CBI) but that indeed it is Labour that has the plan and policies that businesses desperately need.

I don't know if you are correct or if Labour is being determinedly centrist in order to stave off the right wing media and will become more leftish once they get into power.

I have to admit that I'm rather apprehensive about Labour appealing to big business. How are they going to reconcile the demands of big businesses and the needs and wellbeing of the people who work in them.

I have no problem with Labour working with SMEs; these are the backbone of our economy, are massively run by skilled 'working class' (I struggle to find a suitable replacement for that term in this context) tradespeople or enterprising individuals who need protection against 'big business' and local economies that are suited to their needs and those of the people they serve. I don't think that the tories have had much regard for them over the years.

his overall remuneration package was 224 times higher than the median employee salary at Tesco

Let's hope they do get in and bring back some realism to the disproportionate remuneration of these fat cats compared to that of their employees.

Correction - that is the CEO's salary.
The Non-Executive Chairman earns less but what exactly does he do for his huge remuneration?
He's stepping down in the foreseeable future.

I think that you will find that business had already woken up and realise that the Tories are no longer the government for business but a government for the very wealthy.

Labour are now offering the regime that business requires.

Let's hope he tells his "business" pals and word finally gets out!

No I’m not saying that Labour said it - what I am saying is that the Tesco Chairman asked for and received all the plans etc from Labour - it was his opinion not Labour’s.

He was impressed and confident that Labour was a government in waiting,

Just to add that the Tesco chairman said that Labour would be ready to introduce a rounded and complete government from day 1.
