This, to me, is an indication that his star is on the wane as he has a majority of just over 7300 and has not been able to get himself adopted by one of the upcoming seats with safer majorities such as Nadine Dorries one in Mid Beds with a majority in excess of 24,000.

Re Johnson appearing before the privileges committee,
I can’t find the extract from the newspaper now, but I thought that it said, he chose a lawyer to defend him and that the taxpayer would be footing the bill. Is was quite a sum. As I said this was in a paper, is it true?

Maybe he is communicating with cousin Donald and thinks if he can stand again for President he might just have a shot at PM again.

Your post is on the wrong thread EaiesNana. Ask hq to take it down and put something on the estrangement threads

Hi, four weeks ago, I had a fall out with my daughter. Which resulted in a message from her, saying that she didn't want any contact with me for at least two months. This included my birthday, mother's day, Easter. All events we previously shared. She also added that there was to be no Nana time with my granddaughters. Previously, I would talk to the girls every other day on WhatsApp and tell them stories particularly the eldest one who us four, the youngest is 16 months. My daughter works full-time and I have looked after both the girls on a regular basis since they were born. They are not local and I don't drive, but I have always been there to help with child care at a moments notice. I was due to look after the girls during Easter and half term. Yesterday, it being Mother's Day was very hard, and I reached out to my son in law asking if I could have some Nana time, he hasn't responded. I feel broken inside. My daughter has also cancelled our holiday planned for May. I am now into four weeks, and I'm terrified that after another four weeks, my daughter will continue to not see me or allow me contact with the girls. I have a drawer full of thank you cards, notes from her praising me as a mum and as a grandmother. I find this all so inexplicable and I worry that my oldest grand daughter will think I have just disappeared from her life. I wouldn't wish this on anyone and I'm at a loss to understand how my previous relationship with my daughter, which I thought was strong supportive and loving, has turned into this huge barrier of silence and no contact. I have tried to reach out, but my daughter doesn't read my messages,. Any support advice, would be appreciated. Best wishes Saf

I don't know if it will even be a seat soon HPQ as it is one of the seats that will go under the boundary changes, I think

He could stand in Mid Beds as Nadine Dorries has said she is not standing again

Rumour had it that love sick Dorries was sacrificing her seat for Johnson, but I assume that as he has decided to stay where he is, this safe seat was not offered. I expect there is a fair bit of horse trading going on as the safer seats, like where I live (would elect a goat as long as it wore a blue rosette), will be much sought after. A few, of course, are going before they are ignominiously pushed.

I read in inews that the tories are struggling to find enough candidates to stand in the may elections cos no-one wants to fail, I guess the same could be true of the GE, loads of young, presentable Tory MP's are standing down, presumably seeking posts elsewhere before they get pushed, because they can work and be an MP and as Boris has shown, you don't need to do much constituency work to get your salary. I think he is a turd of the highest order but he is able to turn the charm on, say the right thing whether it's true or not. I think enough people see through him now & hopefully he'll be out after his performance on Wednesday.

MaizieD DD used to be a tevision sub-titler, specialising in live sub titling, a bit like those translators that hang around world leaders, translating every word as they say it.

It meant that she spent most of her working time watching/listening to news bulletins from all over the UK, and the world. All those innumerable vox pops from every region, so she got a very good feel for what people on the ground in High Streets country wide were saying.

She ceased to be a tv sub-titler 5 years ago and moved on to something completely different, so it will be interesting to see how highly tuned her political antennae will be to who most of the population want to win, in the next election.

I am amazed he was re-selected. I live in the constituency next door and I was of the opinion people were fed up because he rarely spent any time there.

I think (and hope) he is going to receive a nasty shock at the next general election as he has been a lying toerag for years.

Leopards do not change their spots.

Johnson may be the only witness to appear before the privileges committee

Depends on how Boris gets on this Wednesday, he may be out on his ear.
Saw a pic of him this morning ‘leaving his home’, in a shirt and suit, no tie, suit rumpled and mud stained on jacket and very muddy on trousers and shoes. How can he leave home in that state?

0while we can watch him being interviewed by the Privileges Committee (and make our own judgement) we won't know anything until the committee reports, with its recommendations/sanctions and the recommendations have been voted on by the House of Commons. If Johnson can garner enough support he may well avoid any sanction.

According to news reports there are a number of MPs who are Johnson supporters and are trying to persuade us that he did nothing wrong. I think they are actually from another planet, but they walk among us and are MPs...

He was in a much worse state when he left Russian Oligarch Lebedev's mansion in Italy, when Foreign Secretary. Barely could walk and couldn't put a sentence together. My guess is that he has been blackmailed ever since, the reason he appointed Lebedev, linked to the KGB, to the Lords.

Now THAT is truly worrying.

My thoughts exactly. He was photographed by several members of the public at Perugia Airport, dishevelled and with the appearance of a serious hangover. I think his KGB hosts photographed him doing something compromising. The man is a traitor.

I assume it is because they think he is an electoral asset.

Over the last 10 years, DD has made money on betting the Conservatives will be returned at each General Election and currently she thinks they will get back next time as well.

I know the result most people on here want, but we do not always get what we want, so do not start counting your chickens too soon.

Oooh, I feel a bet coming on😁I could use the money.

Callistemon21 Sat 18-Mar-23 17:03:07

When is an Earl not an Earl?
When she's a Countess.

I don't think we have Counts in our peerage. The equivalent is an Earl

So I don't think Count Binface is in danger of being abolished 😄

Yes, they're known as Earls but their wives are known as Countesses although some women are Countesses in their own right.

Complicated isn't it!

MaizieD Sat 18-Mar-23 16:55:55

Does your DD have sound evidence for her prediction, MOnica? Or has she just made lucky guesses (though as she's your child I would doubt if the latter were true grin)?

Nowt as queer as the Tories! Can’t understand why they’ve backed him again - perhaps even the true blues now want to lose.
