Am watching the questioning of BJ at the moment, it is making me cringe. Any one else feel the same???

Siope Fri 24-Mar-23 14:13:32

Maybee, it was agreed that Paddick could bring three staff members to provide Johnson with advice/information in writing only.

Originally, I believe, Johnson wanted his legal team to be able to answer questions or provide verbal advice and the Committee refused.

Such a waste of time and money (all these folk earn a king's ransom). I know SO many people who ignored the guidelines - 'you're only 70 once' etc that I really don't care any more. There is useful and important work they could be doing.

And were all those people the Prime Minister, and did they all lie to Parliament?

Because, if not, they are not comparable.

MayBee70 Fri 24-Mar-23 14:07:17

He seemed to be surrounded by people helping him. One was on his phone: why was that allowed?

Luckygirl3 Fri 24-Mar-23 14:07:05

I've not been following this - too cringeworthy. Have they carted him off in handcuffs yet? - wishful thinking I guess!

polly123 Fri 24-Mar-23 14:05:39

Question Time was certainly telling with absolutely no support for BJ. He is a narcissist and quite comfortable about lying and throwing anyone under a bus. He was rattled at times and I look forward to reading the responses of body language specialists etc. His ridiculously expensive lawyer was also very interesting to watch. What a farce!

HPQ Prince Andrew perhaps?

That's what sprang to my mind, too [grin[

Does anyone really think that cover ups by government and their members have never happened before? Historically there have been many and I expect that the ones that have eventually come to light are just the tip of the iceberg! Personally I think that a great deal of what the public were and are encouraged to believe about a number of topics, including Covid, are a lot of old hogwash designed to mislead, scare and keep the public compliant. Aided by the media, they are doing a pretty good job it seems. The latest ‘outrages’ are always designed to mask the really serious problems besetting our country.

The latest ‘outrages’ are always designed to mask the really serious problems besetting our country.

In what way do you think Johnson appearing before the committee to answer the question of whether he deliberately misled parliament is being used to mask other problems?

As far as I can see, looking at various news reports, other problems and 'issues' - like the economy - are still being addressed.

Depending on political allegiance and choice of media - we are being "encouraged" to believe different things. There is no one universal belief that we are all blindly following.

Johnson is a notorious liar and bluffer. At some point, he was bound to be held to account. As for "outrage" - well, yes - some of us do get a tad angry when a high-profile politician continually tries to pull the wool over our eyes.

MaizieD Fri 24-Mar-23 12:42:37

This particular 'outrage' goes to the heart of our constitution, the requirement for truth in the government's dealings with Parliament. So it isn't a confected dead cat, it's serious.

As to the others, I think there are plenty of people who are well aware of the very serious tory induced problems facing the UK but who can spend a bit of time on dead cats as well...

Remember the so called ABBA party? All mention of it has been dropped like a hot potato. The reason apparently is because a very very VIP was in attendance.

Ooh, I wonder who? I know the Abba party was not the subject of the committee on Wednesday, but surely those pals of Carrie, were breaking the lockdown regulations too? Those ones who were wandering in and out of No10 offices while red boxes were scattered about. I think Johnson is finished, at least in public opinion, and frankly those who attempt to defend him need to have a good look at themselves. Last night's QT was certainly interesting, not least when the member of the audience succinctly and eloquently shot down whoever that Tory MP was. People are finally realising that this is not about Johnson, but about Parliamentary integrity, one of the last few things that have not been destroyed by this Tory administration. Johnson wouldn't know integrity and honesty if they bit him on the arse.

Good on Max Hastings! Speaks for England.

Why has it taken so long for so many people to see him for what he really is though. He’s done so much damage in the meantime sad?

If other social media platforms are anything to go by - he appears to still have quite a large support base among the electorate.

The consensus among many of them is that Johnson is the victim of a witch hunt by leftie (woke) remoaners and / or that everyone was "having parties anyway" so we should just "move on" and 'forgedaboudit', because there are "much more important things to deal with"... other than honesty and integrity in government, easily dismissed as unimportant because "politicians are all the same anyway" and "whadabout Starmer, then?" And, don't forget, "he tried his best under very difficult circumstances". Considering the huge economic and cultural shift that Brexit was obviously going to bring about, I would've thought that anyone volunteering to lead the charge would have been aware that it was not going to be an easy tenure, so that is not really a pardonable excuse.

Brexit was a means to an end - the end being Johnson's achievement of his personal ambition. Which didn't go according to plan - so, obviously, it's everyone else's fault. If only we'd indulged him in the manner he expects, it would all have gone swimmingly!

...I'm with that notorious 'lefty remoaner', Max Hastings grin!

The Narcissist’s Prayer (by Dayna Craig)
That didn’t happen.
And if it did, it wasn’t that bad.
And if it was, that’s not a big deal.
And if it is, that’s not my fault.
And if it was, I didn’t mean it.
And if I did, you deserved it.

The defense argument in a nutshell.

Johnson enjoys friends with benefits. Is this the Bamfords who provided their house and grounds for their wedding party in 2022 and threw in £23k towards the champagne party? Great choice of friend as he’ll be able to borrow one of these to dig himself out of the big hole he’s in this week.

Fleurpepper Fri 24-Mar-23 10:42:10

Wow!

Siope Fri 24-Mar-23 10:38:17

Riverwalk, it belongs to Carole Bamford, wife of Lord Bamford, the JCB company owner. Allegedly, Johnson is paying a concessionary rent for it.

He's recently been emerging from a grand Knightsbridge townhouse - I wonder who that belongs to?
