My condolences, houseplant

I know somebody whose friend was on Jan 6th at the capitol and died, apparently it is an injustice and this person was doing nothing wrong - bad bad democrats

Apparently the republicans are still (say 95%) not willing to speak up against Trump because he has total control of the core base.

This core base seem to unquestionably believe everything Trump says and why they still believe that the election was won by trump. Trumps ability to gaslight his base is something I find profoundly worrying.

I agree with you WWMk2, I was just commenting on the fraudulent representation charges. He is a vile bully who just pays off those he cannot intimidate and I hope that those he has bullied into silence will now feel they can speak out. What worries me is the morons who believe him, support him and regrettably, I have to count members of my own family who live in USA and believe this is all a communist conspiracy

Apparently what commentators in the USA are saying is that trump will now be gaslighting his followers and the jury, with constant lies and misleading statements, in the hope of nobbling the jury.

I jolly well hope that the judge/someone is taking note of everything he is saying.

The current case is not it appears very strong, so this may not ever get to court.

There was a Trump apologist on R4 this morning, saying that being arrested happens to the very best of people, and this is a positive, as Trump is now in the same group as people such as Nelson Mandela and .....well...Jesus himself was arrested. If it wasn't so scary it would be hysterically funny. I do wonder how the Evangelists square their strict behavioural views with the fact that their 'Messiah' (their words, not mine) slept with a woman while he was married to another, and a woman who was paid to do so, and then paid her off, and lied. Not sure even the most ardent Bible scholar could find a chapter or verse in the Bible where this is acceptable Christian behaviour. For the record, I couldn't care less who he slept with, it is the lies and hypocrisy I detest.

I do care that he has been accused of rape though. This next case is due in 3 weeks and takes place in the civil courts presumably because it is easier to prove “balance of probability “ rather than beyond reasonable doubt, which must be very difficult to prove I would think.

Then there is a potential for causing/encouraging the violence and insurrection on 6 th Jan.

Then there is interference with the election by asking a governor ( I forget which one, but it was in the southern states) to “find” Trump 13k more votes. This one I think has legs as I think there is a recording of the phone call Trump made.

Yesterday the judge made a strong direction that both sides stopped using inflammatory and incorrect language, both at meetings and on social media. Within hours Trump was doing exactly that at an evening meeting with his cult followers.

I wish they had someone stronger than Biden to oppose him. It is laughable that a big country full of talented people should have two old, old men in positions of power/ potential power.

feel there is a second civil war in the US - this time about human rights, just like the first one, agreed. Again on R4 this morning, when this travesty was being discussed, it was described as a '*Cold Civil War*. This is going to end very badly, hopefully for Trump and his venal, freeloading family, but certainly for America as his deluded supporters will not take a guilty verdict and sentencing lightly.

Hithere Wed 05-Apr-23 12:13:46

He will use this for his advantage

The saddest thing is that there are more dangerous people compared to Trump - he just opened the door for them and emboldened them to speak up

He is quite despicable. The comments about grabbing women etcetera are repulsive alone.

BUT this case is a new low that will result in a tit for tat of cases who ever wins.

That means democracy doesn't.

It’s not Donald we have to be worried about, Ron DeSantis ( if he runs) is the scary one.

HousePlantQueen Wed 05-Apr-23 12:01:57

I cringe when I hear him speak, him and his catsbum mouth ( as DD would say), all pursed lips, yuk

Every time I hear him speak or see his adoring masses on the TV I am reminded that there are too many stupid people in this world.

Exactly. It is truly alarming.

Grannytomany Wed 05-Apr-23 05:07:02

Just watching the coronation- like show that is Donald Trump landing in his magic flying machine to face charges in New York. All the prayers, all the wringing of hands which I believe is extremely dangerous to all of us because he is standing to be a future leader of the ‘free’ haha world. What is wrong with these people ? How can they think that a man with his history can be some sort of latter day messiah? We laugh but he poses a real threat to all of us in the future if he gets away with it.
