96 % That is ninety six percent of school leavers age 16 go into further education,apprenticeships or work .I dont think thats a bad figure at all .The education system as I see it ,through my teenage grandchildren appears to work well .
Much better I might say than when my daughter ,now 45,was at school when her dyslexia was ignored then denied for years until she was in 3rd year in High School .
I'm assuming the number in England is 100% by the way the Scottish system is dismissed as useless.
My own 16 year old GD left school with a job to go to that will train her ,plus she volunteers with mentally and physically disabled adults and has for some time .I'm happy she has found what she wants to do ,university isn't for everyone .
England
You can leave school on the last Friday in June if you’ll be 16 by the end of the summer holidays
You must then do one of the following until you’re 18:
stay in full-time education, for example at a college
start an apprenticeship or traineeship
spend 20 hours or more a week working or volunteering, while in part-time education or training
Scotland
If you turn 16 between 1 March and 30 September you can leave school after 31 May of that year.
If you turn 16 between 1 October and the end of February you can leave at the start of the Christmas holidays in that school year.
Wales
You can leave school on the last Friday in June, as long as you’ll be 16 by the end of that school year’s summer holidays
If you are a child who lives on the border you could live in one country of the UK and go to school in another so I wonder which rules apply then?
