This brave man is being slowly poisoned ā€˜it is reported’ in an inhuman cell, with little lighting, for standing up to that brute Putin. I know there is nothing we can do to save him but I feel anyone who is able to should in some way advertise his plight.

His parents who were about to visit him recently were stopped at the last minute and his wife and daughter haven’t been allowed to visit either.

Putin’s and his henchmen say it is nothing to do with them, it’s up to the prison.

For anyone who is a believer please pray šŸ™ for him and others please just keep him in your mind.

I just hope his suffering ends soon. šŸ’

No marching for this incredibly brave man, no banners denouncing Putin and his invasion into Ukraine. I'm all for peaceful protests, but they do seem very one sided and unfortunately emphasise on one horror only.

Hope you feel better soon Maremia flowers

So sorry about the delay. Have been unwell with high temperature, but not Covid, so far. That's the email sent, and I did mention Gransnet.

Maremia Thu 11-Jan-24 11:48:21

Just about to email the address given, and swithering whether or not to mention Gransnet. We are all meant to be anonymous. Yes, I know, the Glasgow Grans actually meet up at Christmas.

Thank you to those who are keeping this thread alive. I haven't posted before, but just thought it was time I said that I am watching the thread and thinking about the brave Alexei Navalny.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 10-Jan-24 16:50:01

Great - thank you Maremia.

NotSpaghetti Wed 10-Jan-24 16:06:53

Thank you!

RESULT! The reply today from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office says 'For information on how to pass on your message you may wish to contact the Anti-Corruption Foundation's campaign to free Navalny via [email protected]'
Please feel free to contact this organisation (the more the merrier), or you can wait until I get more details.

That's an email sent to Lord Cameron at the HOL, and automatic reply received. Parliament is on holiday just now, so it might take a while to get a proper reply. Will keep you up to date with any progress.

Alexei Navalny has sent a message via X (twitter) stating:
"I am your new Santa Claus...and I now live above the Arctic Circle. I don't say Ho Ho Ho but I do say Oh Oh Oh as I look out of the window, where I can see a night, then the evening, and then the day again."
Such courage.
Putin will never let Navalny go as it is a message to Russians who might be tempted to support him. He doesn't care a jot what the West thinks of him, and many Russians agree with him.

And Spabbygirl, if you think this government is behaving like Putin, you need to get out more.
Preferably to Russia.

That poor man - he will find it hard to survive that dump. It just confirms in my mind what a shocking bully Putin is and they are stuck with him for the duration because their ā€˜elections’ are a joke.

Just re-read your post Maremia and see you have kindly offered to write to the FS. I will do my MP.

NanKate Wed 27-Dec-23 07:12:20

Good idea Maremia. I will try David Cameron first and let you all know if he has an address for us to send our cards. Our small band of GNetters is slowly building šŸ‘

lixy Tue 26-Dec-23 17:56:41

Brilliant idea Maremia. I'd love to join in too. Here's hoping some cards get through.

Caleo Tue 26-Dec-23 17:56:30

If my concern is prayer,, then I am praying right now.
Will mention Lavalni's name when I can.

Lavalni is among the ranks of the good people. By their fruit you shall know them

Maremia Tue 26-Dec-23 16:52:55

I wonder if the Foreign Secretary, David Cameron, would be able/willing to help with the address? I'll have a go.

I saw his documentary a while ago and thought what an incredible man he was with an equally brave family. Since then it seemed that the world had almost forgotten him. I was so pleased to see this thread especially as I have just read he's been transferred to this dreadful prison in order to get him out of the way prior to the 'rigged' elections I assume. And yes, I'd like to join in with what you decide to do.

Maremia Tue 26-Dec-23 13:41:23

Thanks NanKate. If you post the address on here, we can all do the same. Plenty of time to get it ready for the 4th of June.

NanKate Tue 26-Dec-23 11:59:47

I’ve been looking for an appropriate address for the British Embassy and it is not an easy task, so I will write to my local MP and ask for her advice and then I will get back to those of you who wish to send a birthday card.

NanKate Tue 26-Dec-23 11:34:54

What an SPLENDID idea Meremia to send a birthday card for 04 June. I suspect the Russian Embassy will throw them away. I will send mine to the British Embassy as there is a chance they could be sent to his family and he might be told by his lawyers about the cards.

Anything to keep him and many others incarcerated in the spotlight šŸ‘

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 26-Dec-23 11:23:47

Sorry- sent too soon. I'll send it to the Russian Embassy in London to send on. Let's ensure that a sackful lands on the mat there.

Chocolatelovinggran Tue 26-Dec-23 11:21:47

Excellent suggestion Meremia. I will act on it. Thank you.

NotSpaghetti Tue 26-Dec-23 10:02:44

News - today he says he's fine.
Thank goodness.

Maremia Tue 26-Dec-23 09:47:00

Thanks NanKate, for starting this thread. What can we GNs actually do? Well, someone said it was his birthday soon, so, taking a leaf out of the Amnesty International 'playbook', we could send him a card. Yes, it sounds naive. And no, I don't think any/many of our cards would get as far as Navalny himself, but they will get somewhere along the line. They will show that the world has not forgotten him, especially as GNs are from all over.
Practical point, do we send them to the Embassy in London/your own Capital, if it is still functioning, asking them to send it on? Do we send them to his family, to show our support?
Having a busy-ish Boxing Day here, but will be back on this thread later, and looking forward to your helpful suggestions.

He is reported to be in good spirits today. If this is true it is remarkable. My thoughts are with him.
