You can bet your life that there are people even now who are using, or intend to use, AI for rather less than noble purposes.. I think that AI should be capable of acknowledging that. Perhaps it is but doesn't want us to know...

Threat, not thread

Did you hear it being discussed on Today?
I looked at yesterday’s Daily Mail last night, and there were three separate articles about AI.
One was all about AI models.
Big companies are using AI models as standard.

I think that in just a few weeks this will be similar to the pandemic, it will be being discussed constantly as it’s invading so many areas of our normal lives.

There’s the immediate threat which WW started the thread about; and then there is the further reaching thread, which could be apocalyptic

My children and grandchildren are already expressing their concerns about this.

I suppose the only consolation is that most of us (I’m 77) won’t live long enough to see it, but our children and grandchildren will.

If they became as diverse as humans, we'd have Data and Terminator as options

Most films are structured around the idea that AI becomes self replicating and when it does, humanity becomes competition to survival either because humans are angry at losing their jobs or humans are destroying the planet

WW2, yes AI will eventually be able to take over the whole planet and humankind, apart from the controllers, will no longer be relevant. Next step will be an AI produced brain. It is beyond scary

So is it possible for any AI system to cooperate with other AI systems set up and develop integration and control over what humans are trying to do?

What I am trying to say is, is it possible for them to get out of control - think of that AI system that has taught itself a language without any instruction from a human.

DS is very well versed in AI, due to work. He has already managed to get a new more progressive job within the organisation as any project management job will be gone within a few years. He has told me of some amazing things that AI can do already eg the conversation over the phone, as though you are speaking to a real person and that is minor compared to the potential

AI, in the wrong hands, will be an exponential evil bomb

AI does not just ape what humans do, they already think better than humans, already much better at working out problems and solutions . Really very scary for the future, china, n korea, russia

There is potential for good but I fear that as always that will be overturned by the many power-crazy people and also countries. It is a very frightening prospect tbh and I am glad not to be a child right now
