The police has apologised over the arrest of the republican group

The Met has sent a letter of “regret” over the arrest of over 60+ people on Saturday.

As I said in another thread.

The police acted like idiots.

However, I am more interested in what prompted the police action, as nothing in the run up to the coronation where, both parties were actively cooperating, suggested that this would happen.

As I said - Braverman’s hand is all over this.

They weren't silent Philippa, they weren't all arrested and of the 60 that were, the police has apologised to 6.

I agree Callistemon. And of course innocent bystanders suffer from the tear gas and water cannon treatment - not just protesters. I remember when BJ was London Mayor he purchased some water cannons but the police weren’t allowed to use them.

I think they were sold to Belgium, Germanshepherdsmum where they are used.

I'd like to think that, out of respect for the thousands who did visit London from all around the world as well as the UK, to watch and enjoy the Coronation procession, the protestors could have stayed away and made their protests on another occasion.

The problem is, they don't respect the views of all those other visitors.

Sorry, that was to Philippa

They care only for their own cause and so long as it’s publicised they don’t care how many people’s simple enjoyment is ruined - including people who have travelled from all over the country and the world at considerable expense, just to enjoy an occasion they may never witness again.

And could you remind us what 'their own cause is' and how it does not apply to us all currently, and our GCs even more so?

What does 'enjoyment' mean in this context?

Sigh

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 16-May-23 12:21:02

🙄

Aveline

Sigh

what a pertinent and inspiring answer.

If you believe climate change does not affect us all, and won't affect our grand-children even more- sighing won't help much.

I'd love to invite David Attenborough to come and comment on GN.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 16-May-23 15:30:15

Btw my response was supportive of Aveline’s sigh, not a criticism of it.

Fleurpepper Tue 16-May-23 15:33:26

Oh I understood, that was clear.

Sufragettes disturbed events. Anti slavery groups did too. And so many others. I can totally understand that many people despair at the impending ecological disaster caused by our refual to tackle climate change, and that this event, which had no meaning to them, and which appalled them by the enormous expense, etc, at a time of real crisis- saw it fit to disturb.

It is, and has been for a very long time, quintessentially British to be allowed to demonstrate disapproval. An strongly integral part of our culture.

I was struck by the comments about Eurovision, that if you don't like it you could turn it off. Which is absolutely true of course, I 100% agree with that. And often that's what people say about the coronation.

But then we don't have to support Sam Ryder and his extended family to live in luxury for the next 500 years and give him rights to control our state and have secret meetings with the PM, and expect deference.

Do we.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 16-May-23 15:39:57

Here we go again.

volver3 Tue 16-May-23 15:42:47

You don't have to answer. Nobody does.

Only ponder.

Aveline Tue 16-May-23 15:43:54

Sigh

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 16-May-23 15:49:32

My comment was to fp - right to protest, quintessentially British, our culture, again.

volver3 Tue 16-May-23 15:56:08

Have you mentioned to the French that the right to protest is quintessentially British?

I don't think it's quintessentially British

It is quintessentially human.

Sam R fully supports the monarchy because they stand for such similar themes that Eurovision celebrates as well, like unity, togetherness, and solidarity.
Saw no problem with the enormous expense of either event this month.
