Ghastly woman. Has been sacked before for doing wrong. Sack her
How did you vote and why today
She asked her civil servants to try two things after speeding
1. to arrange a completely safety private course to avoid being reported
2. then she asked to be entered for a course anonymously.
They refused as it was not in their remit.
So she took the points.
This was reported widely as in including the Guardian and the Mail, but its become an issue for two reasons
the attempted cover up
and asking civil servants to collude with the cover up.
Its the second which in my mind is possibly the most reprehensible.
Both speak to her character however - "I am different, I am better, I can be above the law. (and I want to hide my wrong-doings)
Hopefully, another nail in the coffin, tho unlikely to be a sackable offence?

Trial by media is here l see lol glad to know you all have the facts of the media. It’s more trial by stopping the boats and the civil service for all these leeks think they should have to answer too because if they can’t be trusted with government messages then the leak person should be sacked
Again it turns out that this hasn't just happened but months ago and some civil servant has provided the bullet for a Labour sniper to use to pick off the enemy. Anyone could ahve tried one of the various options and I don't think it was unreasonable to ask if a non-public course could be attended given the security implications

MaizieD are you saying SB wasn’t democratically elected?
Are you saying that the story wasn’t leaked to the press?
Are you saying that a retired very senior civil servant isn’t briefing against SB?
The retired very senior civil servant who spoke out against Braverman is one of a number of people. She's a vote loser - not for her speeding conviction - but nearly everything she says and for her incompetence - and Conservatives know that.

Civil servants leak a non story, to yet again try and get rid of a democratically elected MP. Why, because she speaks from the hip, and they don't like it. They are servants not elected at all, and very much have their own agenda. The MSM are also totally complicit and definitely full of their own bias.
Where's your evidence that civil servants are responsible for the leak?
If you'd been keeping your eyes open, you would be aware that there was criticism of Braverman for the speech she made at the NatCon conference - from a Conservative MP.
Conservative MPs and peers have been criticising her for months. One (anonymous) former senior minister called he a “real racist bigot”.
I'd like to think that these people are speaking out on moral grounds, but the fact that most of them remain anonymous suggests they're watching their own backs. They're frightened of losing their seats in areas being targeted by the LDs and Labour and saw for themselves the results of the local elections. Some candidates in the local elections didn't even associate themselves with the Conservative Party on electioneering leaflets or ballot papers.
Braverman has lost touch with her own backbenchers and many traditional Conservative voters.
And so it rumbles on, all over the media (television) again today. There’ll be no rest till she’s gone.
How would conducting an ethics enquiry, or if appropriate sacking her as a minister, stop her being an MP?

They're not trying to get rid of a democratically elected MP, Freya.
Always a good idea to comment on facts.

An interesting decision for Sunak. Does he do what he should do, and take notice of the more centre wing of his party and sack her which means Braverman taking pot shots from the back benches, at the same time annoying the right wing head bangers, or does he stay silent (after an investigation) and try to keep her onside and quiet, which would show a weak PM.
Braverman will never keep quiet.
Sunak must show his mettle.
It was ever thus with a failing government.
It is the permanent secretary’s duty to report issues with ministers behaviour to the PM. They can choose to act on it or ignore it.

Casdon I am a bit confused. Definitely Sir Philip has spoken and I couldn’t understand why he would be giving his opinion when he had retired in 2019. So I assumed that I had made a mistake and that it was Matthew but so far, Matthew is clearly involved but has been silent.
Are Philip and Matthew related?
I don’t think so, at least I can find nothing that links them online.

Both Rycrofts quoted.

Sorry not Philip but Matthew Rycroft …
Are you sure? It is Sir Philip Rycroft, who retired in 2019 who has given his thoughts publicly as far as I can see. If there is evidence that something has been said by Sir Matthew Rycroft can you post it please?

Sir Philip Rycroft is briefing against SB .
The plot thickens.
I don't think discussion the effect of transgressions by someone as appalling as Braverman - and hoping she will be replaced by someone less toxic - is about "itching for mud to stick". to me, its about removing a dangerous politician.
I'd be interested to discuss Labour Party stuff, but suggest you start a discussion on it?
Germanshepherdsmum
You would think this was the Profumo affair.
It’s actually pathetic how some people just itch for some of their mud to stick.
I could go on about some negative Labour news from today but I honestly won’t stoop to their level.

Indeed.

Fun, isn’t it!
Yes

I can imagine Siope that in conversation with a minister, a diary officer might feasibly be asked about the time slot availability for taking a speed awareness course. Bearing in mind the huge work load of a senior government minister, an informal conversation might follow about how to arrange such an appointment to fit in with a very busy schedule….etc.
Obviously SB did talk to someone in her team and the rest is conjecture. I would love to know who snitched and why but that’s just curiosity?
If you want to know who snitched, keep an ear to the ground and note who briefs against her in the next few weeks.
I feel much the same about this as I do about Matt Hancock's "wandering hand". IMO he was totally out of his depth and the contracts he was handing out to people with a connection to the Newmarket racing scene were suspicious to say the least. He was caught out a few times lying through his teeth about recruitment and hospital new builds, but somehow nobody seemed that bothered - despite (allegedly) not being popular with other MPs. I thought it ironic that he was forced to resign because he was having an affair. What about being a useless minister? Who released that CCTV picture anyway?
If Braverman is forced to resign or is sacked, I will not be shedding any tears. She was out of her depth as Attorney General and is now as Home Secretary. Even grassroots Conservative members have turned against her. She's a vote loser and bank bench MPs know that. The knives will be out - that's how it works.
