Just that. Sadly three people killed and one man arrested.

Let’s face it even after a migrant commits a crime like this they aren’t deported and if the government tried there would be plenty trying to stop it. It’s utter madness. The young students were only 19 and the other victim, in his 50’s, just found dead in the road. Utterly shocking.

That’s why I said he shouldn’t be here Forsythia. If we had a proper immigration system that actually checked who was coming into the country we might avoid some of this.

Totally agree with you Dickens. Of course we don’t know if this individual has been in prison or how his violent history has manifested itself.

Welbeck

You are, doubtless, well meaning but we aren’t saying anything that isn’t being said on the news. Warnings about posting on social media usually relates to people posting what they know as opposed to what’s already out there. Crimes are discussed on the news channels extensively but they only broadcast what’s allowed. If I knew this individual’s name and posted it then I, daresay, I’d be in contempt until his name is released.

west african migrant with a violent history

Why is anyone with a violent history free to roam around - and I'm not specifically talking about this incident, the details of which I know nothing?

It just boggles my mind the number of cases where the perpetrator of a violent act has a long history of violence, but after serving some paltry sentence, is then released. What happens during their incarceration to make them safe to go back into society?

On the other hand, a woman who is no danger to anyone but herself, gets a two year prison sentence for breaking the law on abortion - not that I'm minimising the offence - but how is that sentence justified when some who commit acts of violence are given similar sentences, on a regular basis? Because they are regularly violent?

But, I'm not commenting on this case - little is known about what happened and I'm not speculating on it... just the wider aspect of the number of those committing violent crimes who are frequent offenders.

Seriously shouldn’t be here.

I don’t really know Oreo except it grates on me. I think it maybe that it seems to be a patronising attempt to reassure us by saying it’s only a lone wolf attack. Maybe that’s why it grates, but I’m not sure, it just does.

I live in Nottingham (suburbs) and know all the areas mentioned on the news Ilkeston Road and Magdala Road aren't the best areas. It is an awful situation, though.

tickingbird Tue 13-Jun-23 16:25:12

The university have cancelled the graduation ball. It’s truly awful.

MayBee70 Tue 13-Jun-23 16:22:05

Oh no. I just assumed it was drug related. A parents worst nightmare.Brings back all the memories of worrying about my kids when they went off to Uni. Awful…

Welbeck. Please stop telling us about the contempt of court act every time there’s discussion regarding a criminal act. I live in Nottingham and know quite a bit that I won’t mention on here but the news channels have been discussing it for hours. Three stabbed to death and three others run over by the van. The first two victims, male and female were young students returning from a night out. Not drugs related. Appears to be random attacks. It’s either terrorism or a mental health matter.

CheersMeDears Tue 13-Jun-23 16:01:16

I don't think you need to worry welbeck, the details of the suspect being arrested on suspicion of murder, has already been confirmed by the police, and is in the public domain so no contempt of court by Oreo. She can rest easy.

And there were 3 killed and 3 more in hospital with serious injuries.

Oreo Tue 13-Jun-23 15:47:29

I think that as he stabbed two people and then went on to mow down others it’s pretty clear welbeck
We don’t know his reason as yet, but we are told by the news BBC and Sky what he did.

welbeck Tue 13-Jun-23 15:41:05

this is an active criminal matter.
remember that we all, posters and publisher (MN), are bound by the Contempt of Court Act 1981, section 1, the strict liability rule.

welbeck Tue 13-Jun-23 15:39:03

Oreo

The suspect stabbed at least two people then drove his van at others, so intent on murder.

that is for the courts to decide.
you cannot pre-judge the matter.

NotSpaghetti Tue 13-Jun-23 15:13:45

Have just read the problem is over several areas. The van, for example was in Forest Fields I think. And several city centre roads are closed off - along with the main Ilkeston Road between the University Jubilee Campus and Woolaton Park too.

NotSpaghetti Tue 13-Jun-23 14:54:33

Mapperley Park isn't all bedsits you know.

Oreo Tue 13-Jun-23 14:52:19

Why maddyone? It just means a lone person after all, with no others involved.

maddyone Tue 13-Jun-23 14:41:17

They keep saying ‘lone wolf’ on the news. Am I the only person who finds this phrase objectionable?

kittylester Tue 13-Jun-23 14:39:37

It is no worse rhan lots of areas in lots of towns and cities. Theatre Royal and John Lewis are in the middle of town. In fact we are going to a dinner jazz club not far away on Saturday.

Last I heard there were armed police inside one house and the cordon had been extended.

MayBee70 Tue 13-Jun-23 13:37:32

It’s a very dodgy area or, at least close to one. We always drove very quickly there and locked all the car doors.
