Lumiere Fri 16-Jun-23 00:13:53

Oh and winking emojis when someone has just died, really?

Lumiere Fri 16-Jun-23 00:12:23

The glib response from Primrose53 is so disrespectful
A wonderful actress, from working, class roots, her mother was a cleaner, her father, a painter and decorator
Respect goes a long way you know

She was marvellous in 'Elizabeth Is Missing'. It might be on BBC catch-up. What an amazing woman.

Elizabeth is Missing has just been repeated on BBC4 so will be available on iplayer.

Such a great actor. I wish I had seen her on stage. I love Sunday, Bloody Sunday. She was wonderful as Stevie Smith (the poet) too - an underrated film, I think.

I wish she’d been my MP!

Wyllow3 Thu 15-Jun-23 19:26:19

RIP Glenda - strong, courageous, caring constituency MP, and very bright.

My, I would have liked to see her "Lear".

I spent a day with Glenda, she bought me lunch and we talked about things other than Showbusiness . I think she appreciated time just talking about every day stuff and our children. We corresponded briefly after but I knew she was busy so did not pursue it.
She was great company and we both enjoyed the day we had.
I am sorry to hear that she has died,

Great actress and a wonderful and caring politician. She put her beliefs into action and almost lived two lives in one lifetime. RIP Glenda

She was a wonderful person who made a positive difference during her lifetime.

In the late 60s I unknowingly entertained her and Richard Green on my boat.
It’s wasn’t until they left that near neighbours came and told me who they were.
I didn’t recognise her. All I remember was that they were very interested in buying a boat and sailing. That’s what they were looking for.
Maybe if id recognised her the afternoon wouldn’t have been so relaxed.

It would be good if a Touch of Class turned up on IPlayer, I 'd like to see that again. I enjoyed many of her early films, apart from Women in Love Bloody Sunday was another.

A Touch of Class (1973) - Glenda Jackson as Vickie Allessio

Vickie Allessio : I'm sorry to bother you at this late hour, but do you have oregano?
Dora French : Christ, I hope not! I had a checkup last week.

Mollygo Thu 15-Jun-23 17:11:32

Sorry to hear that. RIP Glenda. I’ve seen her in a few productions, but the one that immediately sprang to mind, was her performance with Morecambe and Wise. I hope if they put a program about her life on, it includes that sketch.

Elegran Thu 15-Jun-23 16:50:59

I was just thinking about her this morning. Whenever I squash an onion to loosen the layers I remember a scene in "A Touch of Class" She had learnt from her lover a clever way to loosen the leaves of a lettuce by turning it upside down and pressing down on it. Then she sees a female friend doing exactly the same and realises that her lover must have taught the friend the trick too - so what else had they shared?

RIP a great actor.

TerriBull Thu 15-Jun-23 13:30:20

Sorry to hear this sad news. A very talented and much admired woman in both her public guises. Her recent role in "Elizabeth is missing" proved she was very much a force to be reckoned with in the acting world.

RIP Glenda
