Spotify dumps deal with Harry and Meghan
(227 Posts)What a surprise! It wouldn’t be a good look to keep letting them use their platform, makes sense from their point of view.
the chap who isn't holding back
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are called 'f*****g grifters' by Spotify exec Bill Simmons after their $20M Archetypes podcast is axed
Good grief, he isn't is he Meryl

I don't think anyone's suggested Spotify has ended it's contract with H & M "because some people don't like them" lyleLyle. My understanding is her pod cast wasn't as well received as was hoped for. You've said "The platform cares about numbers" and it seems that the numbers weren't big enough.
This chap isn’t holding back 😂

lyleLyle Nothing in your post disagrees with what I wrote, so I will agree with you.
Also, Gwenyth Paltrow is definitely not the only celebrity in the Life Style brand game. Not sure why the focus is so heavy on her here.
“Anyway, the second in the field copying someone else is rarely a recipe for success.”
That’s not factually true. There is pretty much always a market lead and a second, at least in capitalism. And she’s in the most capitalist nation in the world. Not saying the idea is viable, but also not saying it isn’t. For every Uber, there is a Lyft. For every Avon there was a Mary Kay. For every Exxon there is a Chevron. For every Boeing there is a Lockheed Martin etc.

Actually Marydoll that’s more interesting, I wish it would rain here.
Three spots and it stopped Casdon, but we have lots of thunder. Its so oppressive.
Monica,
Unless you are in the board meetings, literally everything you posted to me is an assumption. The only thing we know are that they weren’t bringing in the numbers.
As I told Smileless, my post was mostly in response to the OP, which contained a really silly assumption as to why Spotify dropped the deal with Meghan. And I will say it again, Spotify doesn’t care about whether or not a podcaster is a “good look”. They care about ratings. That’s not an assumption. That’s a fact. But you can continue assuming about the “lacking” of anything outside of listeners to justify the price point. Outside of ratings, what the content did or didn’t provide is subjective. My comments still stand.

Callistemon I am actually recycling comments I also made months ago. We were probably on different threads. At one point there were about 3 H&M thrads all running at the same time.
lyleLyle A lot of assumptions in your post, that are not justified. Very few think that H&M were 'dumped ' by Spotify because they are not liked They were dumped because their content was both lacking and what little they did, didn't pull in the punters.
Nor has there been any suggestion that the GN demographic being outraged has any effect on Spotify's decisison again no one has suggested that. The simple fact is that Americans, of all ages, are as bored as we Brits are, of this tiresome two and that M's series of interviews just didn't pull in the punters, so therefore didn't bring in the revenue.
As for suggestions that she might try and do a Gwyneth Paltrow! That M is even considering it really shows how lacking in creativity she is. Gwynneth Paltrow is a big star with a stellar career in every sense and a long history in the 'wellbeing world', including taking a lot of flak for some of her weirder ideas. M cannot begin to match her at any level. Anyway the second in the field copying someone else, is rarely a recipe for success, usually a painful way of being - dumped - by viewers after one visit.
Smileless, my post was mostly in response to the OP. The idea that Spotify is dumping them because “it’s not a good look” is fantasy stuff. Indeed, it is about numbers only.

Spotify is “dumping” a lot of staff and podcasts for business purposes. The idea that it “wouldn’t be a good look” to keep them there is silly and detached from reality. Spotify couldn’t care less about anyone who finds it distasteful that they have a deal with Meghan and Harry. To think that is to be clueless as to what Spotify is. And anyway, the demographic most likely to be outraged by Meghan and Harry isn’t exactly a group most Spotify casts court. Their listeners are mostly young and American. Somehow I strongly doubt the gransnet demographics are an influential group for their business decisions. The platform cares about numbers, as they should since it’s how they make money. Joe Rogan has been one of their highest rated podcasts. If you think they would pay him $100 million and get rid of Meghan because some people don’t like them, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. They care about ratings no matter how daft and offensive. Meghan is far from either. Her podcast just wasn’t as big as they expected. She isn’t the first famous person to experience this. Not quite sure how this is a victory, as it appears be celebrated as such here. I’m sure she feels like a real loser in her giant mansion, with still millions in her bank account
. How many can say the same?
I read many musicians were absolutely fuming at the initial payout Spotify were prepared to outlay in their favour at the original sign up, after all they were pretty much an unknown quantity as to any prospective audience.
It has been mooted for a while that Meghan will go down the Gwyneth Paltrow "Goop" route and follow the money along those lines, it's certainly made Gwynnie quite rich allegedly! that's if you don't mind being known for promoting incredibly expensive I saw you coming, more money than sense products to a wealthy clientele.
However, all just conjecture and it remains to be seen where they will pop up next.
Well they might if H's desperate for something to put in the second book Callistemon.
They will have to do what scions of other royal families have done when they decided to leave their family firms. Buy a modest detached house in a city suburb somewhere and either live off what they have earned so far, - and that should not be too difficult) or get jobs. He could make a good figurehead/advisor for a security company and she could start auditioning for parts again.
I'm sure I posted that months ago - two minds, one thought M0nica!
They won't be using the food bank or living under a bridge as many people do in America.

They tend to use words like ‘dumped’ here- you know, say it as it is sort of stuff ! Makes people take notice I suppose.
It's called the 'digging the back yard with a bloody shovel affliction' nanna8 😂
Thank you GNHQ. 😚

Must have thought they were on to a winner M0nica rather like H & M.

Spotify seem to be reorganising. It's more concerning that they are making 200 people redundant. They'll be suffering.
Yep. Meghan’s one of them.
'They' say always be nice to people on your climb to the top because you will meet them again on your way down.
