Video emerges of Tory Party HQ Party during lockdown

A video has emerged showing some Conservative Party workers drinking and dancing at a Christmas party in December 2020 during the Covid pandemic. At the time, Tier 2 restrictions were in place, which meant that people were banned from socialising indoors, except with members of their household or a support bubble. Socialising at that stage of the pandemic was limited to up to six people in a garden or at a pub with outdoor seating. As the drinking and dancing goes on, one of the partygoers is actually heard saying it is OK to film "as long as we don't stream that we're, like, bending the rules". Clearly they knew exactly what they were doing, and this "do as I say, not as I do" hypocrisy is at the core of the Johnson- inspired culture of entitlement and elitism which has consistently treated the public with such contempt. The Police investigated the incident in November 2022, but no charges were brought. The Conservative party "disciplined" four of the attendees. Surely this now needs reviewing in the light of this new, damning evidence?

History repeats itself. Its nothing new.

My Mum died in hospital from Covid (which she caught in hospital). She was 101 yrs old and was crying and asking for me 2 days before she died. I couldn’t go to comfort her because I caught Covid from her when I had visited her 3 days earlier! The more I see of these videos etc the angrier and upset I become. I can still hear her calling for me sad. Then we couldn’t even give her a decent send off. I’m spitting blood just thinking about it angry

I hoping that one of the tabloids will get hold of a photo of each one and name them.

Which just about sums up the whole Tory party

Sounds about right for her. She is a vile, foul mouthed old crone.

Indeed she is!

I think a big difference is that miscreants would resign, step down as soon as found out ,with no fuss .

nanna8 Mon 19-Jun-23 11:55:50

I wonder if they are worse now or whether it is just because we find out more about them through social media ? I suspect they might always have been a bit suss, we just didn’t see it.

SillyNanny321 Mon 19-Jun-23 11:50:33

Would it have been any different whatever political party was governing at the time? All politicians are the same, only in it for their 10 minutes of fame & as much money they can screw the rest of us out of! They are all a bunch of disgusting self entitled idiots who think that they are so much better than the rest of us ordinary mortals! My Nan always said do not trust a politician! She was so right!

Primrose53 - she is only saying what so many of us are thinking. I did not see my 90 year old mother for months. My husband only saw his through a window. Our granddaughter of 18 months only saw us from her doorstep as we stopped outside in the car. My stories are minor compared to the bereaved families, how must they be feeling having seen this disgusting behaviour?

Disgraceful. Johnson is to blame. His so-called honours list should be rescinded by the King.

Just vile when so many couldn’t be with loved ones ….. arrogant, self serving, hypocrites just about sums them all up. The party is over in more sense than one.

Callistemon21 Sun 18-Jun-23 23:24:42

I can only echo what everyone is saying on here.

Just appalling, arrogant and contemptuous and yes, we deserve better.

Any honours should be rescinded because they are just not honourable in any way.

In fact, they should be dismissed.

Compare and contrast the video of the Downing Street party with the film of the funeral service for the Duke of Edinburgh, where the late Queen sat in total isolation.

I was interested to know if that particular party led to anyone developing Covid. I suppose all those young people worked together in a 'bubble'. I'm not excusing it. I'm just not surprised.

It’s highly likely that some of them did develop Covid. The party was on 14th December, and on 19th it was announced that London and SE England was going back to Tier 4 restrictions from 21st. So, there would definitely have been discussion at government level about the increasing infection rate at the time of the party.

If they had been all working together the 'party' would have made little difference in their chances of catching covid

My apologies NanaDana you didn't mention eating out which was still allowed up until mid December 2020

Rosie, the OP says tier 2 restrictions were in place at that time and reminds us what these were.

Yes the OP does but she was incorrect in saying that you could only eat outside in early December which was not the case

Rosie. I didn't mention eating anywhere. I quoted what was allowed under Tier 2 in terms of permitted numbers and locations for gatherings.

varian Sun 18-Jun-23 20:23:56

Is anyone surprised at these latest shocking revelations?

Surely we all know the mantra of the corrupt Tory Party is "we can do what we like - you must follow the rules but they don't apply to us"

If I remember correctly we were not in lockdown on that date I only remember it because we took our staff out for a Christmas meal and we had to sit on separate tables. We were certainly not dancing or cuddling.
I think we went into lockdown a couple of days later.

Iam64 Sun 18-Jun-23 19:41:26

73,766 people were registered as having died of covid in 2020. I don’t know the figures but long covid is affecting enough people for our town like others, to have special clinics and support for people suffering long covid.
The costs and benefits of lockdowns remain unclear and need further evaluation

There’s no excuse for the drunken knees up shown in this video. Johnson was leader, he set the tone. He’s a disgrace alongside the people in the video. Name and shame - I surprise myself feeling angry enough to suggest that

Happygirl79 Sun 18-Jun-23 19:23:19

When I watched that video my first thought was how ashamed I would have been if my son or daughter was in that clip. Angry doesn't cover it
I feel its so unjust. This corrupt government must have been laughing at us while we were being locked away. Stealing from the taxpayers purse and giving billions to their rich donors partying and constantly lying to us all. I despair.

Fleurpepper Sun 18-Jun-23 18:15:31

Just so so appalling. Who is the 'dancing guy' he looks totally demented or high as a kite on ????

Dickens Sun 18-Jun-23 18:10:44

As a matter of interest, did anyone at that party catch Covid? Just wondering.

Who knows? It makes no difference to the point - which is whether they broke the rules that were imposed on everyone else.
