It is very easy to request a mammogram if you are over 70 . I rung up and was given an appointment a couple of days later.

74 is the cut off date here for many things like bowel cancer screening, mammograms, smear tests etc. Probably a world wide agreement.

It may be like mammograms and bowel cancer screening in that there is an age cut off point but you can request one at any age. My DH was concerned last year and requested a bowel cancer test. I am going to find out if I can get lung cancer screening as I had radiotherapy four years ago and didn’t know about the lung cancer connection.

I wonder why this is being announced on the same day as the announcement that the National Cancer Research Institute is winding down after 22 years.

The screening is apparently to be done by a private company, despite concerns that the country is already short of radiologists.

Great news if it actually happens!

Lung cancer is more difficult to treat in over 75s and not cost-effective.

I should imagine the cut off point is down to medical science.

Smear tests are not routinely offered to women 70 and over.

Wondering why there is a cut off point of 74. Any ideas ?
