Ch 4 10 pm. Boris Johnson and Lebedev…

At last, a Dispatches special investigating Johnson’s relationship with Lebedev and his father which points out he was the first PM to overrule intelligence advice and ignored the intelligence services advice relating to national security. Why has this been so long in coming? No wonder his supporters wanted rid of Ch4.

So frustrating, it doesn’t seem to be available. I’ll keep looking.

I found it on freeview via a rather tortuous route (which I still don't understand.)

See if this works:

A long and excellent twitter thread by Andrew Levi on how this happened and why nothing could be done about it:

twitter.com/AndrewPRLevi/status/1673997876098215938

Basically it's because the PM is the ultimate arbiter and cannot be overruled by anyone at all, not even the monarch. We depend on the PM behaving with integrity and honesty, Johnson has neither of these qualities. So we were f*cked. And will be again if another politician equally lacking in those qualities becomes PM. And, as I said earlier, if they were better organised and focussed there would be no saving us.

We were only rescued because his Cabinet revolted against him and forced him to resign.

You can read the substance of Andrew's thread in the article he wrote for West country Voices. It might be easier to access than the twitter thread.

It was mentioned at OMQT today. I missed it, though. I don’t think there was an answer ( there never is).

There's not only Trump about to get his just desserts.
In 2007 the then President Sarkozy received Gaddafi on a visit
He was allowed to pitch his tent (s) and hold court in a
park near to the Elysee Palace . It was quite a shocking sight at the time . Fast forward 10 years and we find
Sarkozy is constantly under investigation for illegal funding
and facing jail time.
The judiciary may be slow but they get there.

Its called Boris, the Lord and the Russian Spy

Whitewavemark2 Wed 28-Jun-23 12:33:32

Thanks - I know it’s dispatches, but all I can get is about pensioners - do you know what the title was?

FannyCornforth Wed 28-Jun-23 12:30:09

Sorry, James OBrien.
I thought that you were replying to my comment directly above yours.
I knew that you sometimes listen to him.

It’s Dispatches on Channel 4

Whitewavemark2 Wed 28-Jun-23 12:29:04

Trying to find it - what is the title anyone please?

Are you trying to find James?
I’ll see if I can find a link

I’m trying to find the programme.

Whose James?

Marthjolly1 Wed 28-Jun-23 12:26:53

Well I really have heard it all now about Boris. I watched the programme and was truly shocked and very saddened that our PM of the day thought it was OK to put his personal dodgy friendship above the highest advice of our formidable security services. Beggars belief. He needs to be held to account.

James O’Brien has been talking about this for the past hour, I reckon that he’ll continue to after 11 too.
It will be available on the Global Player app if anyone is interested

Whitewavemark2 Wed 28-Jun-23 10:02:48

The USA is getting Trump - we should do the same.

The only reason nothing is being done I reckon is for political reasons.

Yes there are loads in prison who are far less guilty than Johnson. He should be locked up and forgotten.

Greta

Yet this is the man that the conservatives voted for as PM. He is also the man whose slogan "Get Brexit done" won him the 2019 election. Does this not reflect badly on our nation?

I think it reflects badly on the uselessness of our governance system that such an appalling individual was able to reach the highest office in the government structure and was then able to ride roughshod over every single part of the mechanisms that were intended to provide checks and balances to his powers with absolutely no meaningful sanction whatsoever.

Johnson has destroyed so much and enabled so much harm, but fortunately, being lazy and disorganised, he didn't cement his grip on power in the way a true dictator would have. What worries me is that our system still leaves us wide open to a potential dictator.

He should be behind bars, though...

What evidence have you of "his supporters " wanting to get rid of channel four. Some MPs did, or did you mean his supporters in the voting population. Because as a Conservative, I personally couldn't care less if it was sold to Discovery, as was muted, as its a channel I never watch.

FannyCornforth Wed 28-Jun-23 07:24:43

I read speculation that Johnson is being blackmailed by him

Must watch that !

I read that the Italian security services monitored Johnson’s visits.

What an awful man he is.

MaizieD Tue 27-Jun-23 23:45:41

Scrub that. I've found it.
