We simply don't know the driver's medical circumstances.

I agree but advising isn’t always enough, but anyway this is just general not about this lady at all as we don’t know the circumstances

BlueBelle, my experience is doctors are quick to advise people not to drive if a diagnosis suggests seizures are a possibility.

BlueBelle Mon 10-Jul-23 06:56:52

Iam64 should she have been driving then? unless of course it was the first time it happened
It never ceases to bother me, the people who drive with big medical problems or very, very elderly, and eye problems and really shouldn’t be on the road
I have an elderly acquaintance who has been known to pass out (seemingly out of the blue) but is still driving I also know of an elderly gent with Alzheimer’s still driving, the family say he would kick off if they tried to take his keys away !!!
DVLA should be more on the ball in my opinion

Sad sad news.

Iam64 Sun 09-Jul-23 20:52:45

It seems the driver suffered a seizure

Grannyben Sun 09-Jul-23 20:38:53

How absolutely heartbreaking for everyone involved

So sad, a second child has died.

A school could never know what disaster might strike at any time.

It may be the driver is not responsible if there was an unanticipated medical problem which caused a loss of control but I do wonder whether schools should be better protected from impacts - bollards, for instance.

Awful. I’m just catching up. Last thing I heard (about two hours ago) was that nine people had been injured. I did read on Twitter that one child had died, but it wasn’t official news then.

I thought the driver had just blacked out and the car veered into the school.

if someone has been arrested, that makes it an active case and we should be circumspect, ie avoid speculations.

I don't think anyone is making any assumptions on this thread, just relaying what has been said by the Detective Chief Superintendent and Chief Paramedic of the LAS. As we read it in Ashcombe 's live link.

So many will have been affected.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 06-Jul-23 15:31:50

Casdon yes it’s changed since I first read it.

Such a terrible tragedy for all involved.

Smileless2012 Thu 06-Jul-23 15:31:27

Her poor parents, it doesn't bear thinking about does it.

Smileless2012 Thu 06-Jul-23 15:30:21

What a terrible thing to have happened.

Yes on suspicion, while an investigation takes place which will determine whether or not there was a medical issue over which the driver had no control.

Ashcombe Thu 06-Jul-23 15:29:49

One of the girls has lost her life. She was eight years old. What a ghastly tragedy.

Ive only just seen this, and I’ve just read that a child has died and a woman in her forties has been arrested. Absolutely awful, those poor children.

Casdon I read that the driver had blacked out/had a medical incident at the wheel.

Whatever the circumstances it’s tragic if there has been a loss of an innocent child’s life RIP

I don’t know GrannyGravy13, but this was what i read on Sky News:
‘The driver of the vehicle involved, a woman in her 40s, has also been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.’
perhaps (I hope) things have moved on since that report.

One of those awful, if it had been a day earlier or a day later this wouldn’t have happened situations. Any other day and the children would have been inside. Or, tomorrow they would have been on holiday. Heartbreaking.

Just popped up on my newsfeed, those tinies had a lucky escape, I do hope the driver recovers.
