I know the last thread was taken down at the op’s request - but if anyone wants to continue discussing this major news item I’ve started this one.

Yes Dan Wooton has articles in the DM on line regularly. He is anti Meghan Markle

Anniebach Wed 19-Jul-23 16:05:14

Did he ?

The Sun are looking into the allegations

Dan Wooton worked at The Sun until 2021, when he went to the Mail / Mail online.

Frankly they sound bizarre but very little surprises me anymore. I don’t intend to engage in any speculation so will await the outcome of any investigation.

growstuff Wed 19-Jul-23 13:19:25

I've also read the allegations against him and I don't know who to believe.

The police found no criminality in the HE case.Am thinking there will also be no criminality around Dan Wooton either.
Looks like a case of newspapers and SM doing witch hunts when all there is to it are private sexual things.I wonder how many men, married or single, gay or straight would like to have their private lives examined in this way.In other words, it’s their business not anyone elses.

In the DW case, the allegations are more serious. It's alleged (and I have no idea of the truth) that DW has used two false names (one male and one female) to entice some well-connected people to send him pictures of a sexual nature, presumably with a view to blackmail.

If that's true, the problem is that the people involved are not likely to come forward in case he publishes the photos/videos.

Dan Wooton explains the allegations against him very clearly in the link given by lemsip upthread .

Have you read it?

Yes.

Just allegations so far growstuff not facts and maybe very far from the truth. No case for pitchforks just yet.

I know. It could be a massive hoax, but it's a very well orchestrated one.

Re. Mother's Little Helper. I remember the song well, and having Googled, see that the Stones released it in July '66. Apparently the BBC banned it from radio play because of what they saw as a description of casual drug abuse, although I see nothing "casual" about being prescribed Valium for M.H. issues. As regards the record, I preferred the B side, Lady Jane. Happy days, but not thanks to Valium in my case, I'm pleased to say. Others were not so fortunate.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 19-Jul-23 13:04:50

I’m well aware of the Stones song but am surprised someone still uses the phrase today. Btw I have never been prescribed Valium.

Smileless2012 Wed 19-Jul-23 12:54:19

I'd looked it up too Annie but see you've posted @ 12.27 what I was going too. I knew they were called 'mother's little helpers' but wasn't sure where the name originated from.

micmc47 Wed 19-Jul-23 12:51:33

Oh, deep-joy. More sexually-orientated allegations about someone's private life. Some out there will be tickled pink at the opportunity for renewed speculation, especially now that the hysteria surrounding the H.E. case has abated somewhat.

I'm surprised that we haven't seen more about it in the gutter press, although I expect that the burn dressings on the still-smarting fingers will be making for an uncomfortable keyboard experience.

Anniebach Wed 19-Jul-23 12:41:42

Yes Oreo as the link says , until early 80’s

tickingbird Wed 19-Jul-23 12:32:52

That is a vile and belittling phrase.

Vile? Seriously?

Oreo Wed 19-Jul-23 12:30:28

That’s what they were commonly called ‘mothers little helper’

Anniebach Wed 19-Jul-23 12:27:25

Valium
Approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1963, Valium has now been with us for half a century. From the late 1960s to the early 1980s, “Mother's Little Helper” (as described by the Rolling Stones in a 1966 song) was the Western world's most widely prescribed drug.22 Sept 2013

I don’t call my ongoing medication for depression which started as PND ‘mother’s little helpers ‘. That is a vile and belittling phrase.

Many of you have chosen to speak on Jaffacake's behalf. Speaking to her directly, I would like to say I am sorry if she was upset by my remarks. I was extremely concerned people were flying very close to the law and could put themselves in difficulty.

However, how many have apologised to Huw Edwards, his family and the other adult, whose lives and reputations have been gleefully shredded on this forum? Brains have become locked by anger. Logic seems to be dead and angry gossip reigns supreme.

FannyCornforth Wed 19-Jul-23 11:58:05

Thank you Annie

Anniebach Wed 19-Jul-23 11:24:05

Not at all Fanny oh your poor mother a victim of ‘mothers little helpers’. Valium, Ativan etc, nightmare years affecting thousands of women , withdrawal was horrific, I sat with many
going through that.
