Unfortunately OddOne in some cases the irreversible has been done. Some have transitioned without the appropriate counselling and understanding of what was involved and regretted it when it's too late.

There are no bigoted posts on this thread, simply posters expressing their opinions as we are all entitled to do and should be able to do, without being labelled bigots.

What does 'born in the wrong body' mean, please?

It suggests that people are allocated a body before birth but some suffer from a mix-up, like princesses in fairy tales. Either that, or 'gender' roles are so fixed that someone in a male body who has a 'feminine side' is such an aberration that he needs to 'transition', which I find ludicrous, closed-minded and regressive.

There is no reason why either sex can't ignore 'gender norms' and live as they like. That doesn't mean that they can, or should try to change sex, however, and certainly doesn't mean that children should be encouraged to think that they can do so either.

If any movement for change is worth anything it doesn’t have to resort to fictitious non facts. It’s objective should be able to be proved by fact and truth.

I cannot think what it's all about and I'm wondering if someone, somewhere has some kind of hidden agenda, to make the concerns of what used to be a tiny minority, such a major public matter. It is children who are being affected, encouraged to reject the bodies that the Goddess gave them and believe they can be anything they want to be - or, most importantly, anything they think they MIGHT want to be, on an adolescent whim. I have three pretty, feminine and very bright granddaughters, and a strapping, intelligent grandson. I hope they will be proud of their gender, and respectful of the opposite one. I have every sympathy for those rare individuals who truly do feel trapped in the wrong body and I think such deserve help - but personally I would say that any intervention should not commence until the age of 25. But I could literally be shot for saying this, for the trans brigade are becoming very militant. I see all this as scary, and bad for women. Heavens - we haven't yet redeemed femininity, it seems to me that needs our focus.

You do realise that if forced to continue to live in a way the greatly distresses them and causes them deep pain, most of these young people wouldn't even reach age 25?

I cannot believe the number of bigoted posts in reading on this thread! I obviously expected some, after all, the media have spoon fed the masses their "these young people are being forced into this!" narrative for far too long. But to see the sheer number here is completely disheartening! And no, I'm not trans, nor do identify as gender fluid. I'm just opened minded and have trans friends, I've also spoken to many other trans people (most of whom knew from the moment they started school that they were in the wrong body. So no, a 9 year old isn't too young to know their own mind. And even if that were the case, nothing irreversible is being done just by allowing a child to be who they feel they are. There's no drugs or surgery at that age!). Let people be who they want to be.

On the Womens' rights issue which could in fact also be very similar to LBTQIA rights, I am so disappointed. I burned my bra in 1965 in Soho. I wanted to be equal in every way, nothing more, just recognition. I am so sad now to see that no couple can afford the deposit on a house unless they both work. Back then you had the choice: housewife or career and the latter felt empowering. In those days husbands' gave women the housekeeping money but it rarely ran to a new bra so burning them was a good idea! Then there was a kindly lady down the road who would babysit or look after kids after school but now they are all out at work. If you pay a sitter, that takes up one of the 2 salaries so what did we gain?

This whole agenda has been brought about by trans women, who still retain the aggressive personalities of men and are using naive women to fight their cause spot on MelAnt.

Mermaids didn't need the LGB Alliance to destroy their reputation, they managed to do that all by themselves.

Schools are employing companies to teach about sex and sexual matters. These companies have an agenda, which has been promoted by Stonewall, a charity that some homosexuals have disassociated themselves from (Ian McKellan and Matthew Parris to name two). It is frightening to know that girls who have a crush on anither girl at school, should now believe that they should have been born a boy, when this could be a passing phase, or they will stay attracted to women and become a lesbian. I wasn't even sure what I wanted for tea when I was 9 or 10 so the thought that someone of that age could be encouraged to explore what gender they wish to be/become is a bewildering thought.

Add to this the extra attention and focus you can garner by being different and it is a heady cocktail.

When will the penny drop that humans have a whole spectrum of attractions etc varying because of life stages and societal pressures. These labels are pointless.

Jolyon Maugham of the Good Law Centre took the case on for Mermaids - they are crowdfunded and I swear that guy never wins a case so I have no idea why people use him. It was always going to be a loss - Mermaids have no standing to try and remove charitable status from LGB Alliance. It was purely vindictive - part of the reason for the LGB Alliance being formed is that they felt same sex attracted people were being damaged by the trans activists. Young lesbians being talked into believing they are really straight boys in the wrong body is profoundly homophobic. LGBA are not transphobic - they just wanted to separate themselves from the rest of the alphabet soup, which is becoming profoundly toxic.

Should pressuring children into an “alternative” lifestyle be a charitable activity. There may be a case for helping those with issues but only on a highly regulated basis, but not those with an obvious agenda.

Because that is what is being demanded now.

Parents and schools are undertaking 'social transition' of children simply because they don't fit stereotypes for their sex.
The children then go through many years of being coached by the 'social transition' to believe that they are the opposite sex from reality and they arrive at puberty thinking that their natural puberty is the worst thing that could happen so they want puberty blockers and see themselves having further medication and/or surgery later.

These are the children Mermaids claims to help, by encouraging the falsehood of social transition.

Nevertheless, Lesbian Gay & Bisexual Alliance did not challenge Mermaids' right to be a charity.
It was Mermaids which challenged LGBA because of its stance that gender identity is not equivalent to sex and that children should not be coached to believe that they are the opposite sex from reality.

Oh dear. I find the whole subject confusing these days!!! I've worked with people of various gender and found their thoughts and ideas similar to those of anyone else. Why not just accept people as they are or want to be? It could avoid a lot of problems but I guess that it's now an open book and there are more people getting involved.

The lawyers have done well out of it I expect.🙄
