And ther's the situation of Nadine Dorries. Has not spoken in the House for a year, still getting her salary.

her constituents need to get this sorted, they have no representation, what is the matter with people? This lazy indifference and acceptance of atrocious service to the community is how these cheats get away with it

I think they get away with it because too many can't be bothered to care. There is a "Oh well/never mind/ they're all the same/nothing you can do-attitude in this country when matters like this are concerned.

Exactly this. It is on the thread about the recent by elections, several posters talking about 'them all being the same'. This is the dreadful legacy of Johnson and his govt, a drip drip of acceptance of lies, cheating, corruption which many seem to just shrug their shoulders to. We need to be more French!

Tom Scholar was an excellent civil servant and his sacking by Truss was a disgrace. He is fully morally entitled to his severance payment which is more than be said for the payments to Truss and Kwarteng.

Severance pay of nearly half a million is excessive. I know someone who worked for over 40 years for the same company - stat min for them.

Johnson has had his legal fees paid by the taxpayer £265000. Unprecedented apparently never been done before.

How do they get away with it?

Is the U.K. population too cowed to say “enough!”

They were not his legal fees, the client was the Cabinet Office.

What did the fees relate to?

NotSpaghetti Sat 22-Jul-23 10:04:27

Yes, I wasn't referring to Tom Scholar.

I was shocked to read that MP's who claim for a "second home" are also ENTITLED to over £5000 a year living expenses for up to 3 children up to the age of 18!! WHY,surely they earn enough or fiddle enough to feed their own kids? Children all over the uk are going hungry ,benefit caps and rape clause and just the soaring cost of living has enabled that so why ,yet again a different rule for them, who have had wage rises regularly while others fell behind due to their policies?

Whitewavemark2 I think people are exhausted with the greed, self-serving and corruption.

I'd rather have anyone than Liz Truss.

Severance pay:
Liz Truss: £18,660
Kwasi Kwarteng £ 16,876

Tom Scholar, £457, 000
(Treasury Permanent Secretary sacked by Karteng)

I would rather have Liz truss than Sunak, cosying up to Alison Rose at Downing Sreet , as seen on Tuesday.

You can’t compare a career civil servant who has worked for the government in a senior role for over 30 years being removed from his position on a political whim and who received the standard negotiated payment for those circumstances with a failed chancellor who was in post for 5 weeks.

There is nobody with the guts to say no.

Snouts in the trough!

When you look at the financial chaos caused by Truss et al it's staggering that they are receiving personal payments of thousands of pounds. Not to mention the severance pay mentioned in the article that amounts to nearly half a million. Whats wrong with stat min? www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/jul/20/truss-and-kwarteng-given-more-than-16000-each-after-leaving-office?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other
