George Alagiah RIP

He personified all that is best in intelligent and empathic broadcasting: such a loss. I feel so sad for his family.

What sad news; he seemed a gentle and intelligent man, and had been so brave. I too was pleased to see him back reading the news, and sorry recently when he once again had to step back.

He always produced such excellent reports and with so much warmth. I was so sad to hear this.

I am reminded of an rather posh elderly lady in her nineties that I used to visit who was often very racist in her remarks but would add ‘ but George Alagiah is lovely’. I never knew whether to laugh or chastise her.

I have just read Allan Little's tribute to him on the BBC News website. It was extremely moving .

RIP George. Clearly an outstanding human being.

I am deeply saddened to hear this tragic news. What a wonderful newsreader he was, always setting the right tone, showing dignity and respect. I saw him once going into the BBC, and he smiled so warmly at me, I wish I had said hello properly and told him how much I enjoyed his news presenting.
Wishing his family comfort and solace at this time, and hopefully them knowing how loved and respected he was, may ease their sadness a little.

So sad to read this, I know he'd had cancer for quite a while, an excellent newsreader and a very nice man. 67 no great age these days. RIP George a great loss.

He was a friend at high school.
A group of us all had a lot of fun together and spent many a long lunchtime putting the world to rights over cups of tea in the Wimpy Bar.
He was always a gentleman and perfectly groomed.

He did always seem to be a man of integrity and compassion and he will be missed.

His fellow newsreaders were obviously upset when giving us this sad news. Very personal to them, and although I never met him, it feels personal to me, too.

This is so sad, if not unexpected. He seemed to be such a lovely man and his smile was beautiful. Just watched Clive Myrie who was almost crying as he added his tribute. It brought tears to my eyes, too.

So sorry to hear this. I liked him.

Like urmston, I wept hearing this news. A man of warmth and integrity. He lived with cancer for 8 years, tough but it did remind me that my lovely husband lived 6 months from diagnosis. Brutal disease rip George Alaghia

So sad, as a bowel cancer survivor myself I followed his story with interest. He was so accepting of everything thrown at him and did whatever he needed to without complaint
