I was upset to hear this, although I did know he was ill. He always came across as a gentleman, a man of integrity and kindness. A loss to his family, and to us all.

I am so sorry to hear he has died, an excellent newsreader.

Saddened to hear this.

Clive Myrie added a personal tribute at the end of the report on the 1 o’ clock news. He was visibly moved.

Best wishes next month Oldbat for your husband’s scan. It really is a very stressful time. I’ve heard it referred to as ‘scanxiety’ which I can well understand.

An absolutely fine newsreader and a real gentleman. I remember watching a TV programme about his battle with bowel cancer and thinking what a lovely, handsome man he was.

My Mum had bowel cancer twice (different types) so, like George, I am always doing all I can to make people aware of BC symptoms.

Upset to hear this. Both he and my dh have followed the same cancer journey diagnosed at same time with similar operations and same number of rounds of chemo. Dh scan due in Aug to monitor progression.

I cried. I’d only thought of him last week when we were inThe Christie and I saw someone who reminded me of him.

I remember being delighted to see him back on our screens after he had been away for a good long time. Thinner obviously but looked well. Then he disappeared again.

I liked his voice and presentation style very much.

RIP sir.
