He always seemed a gentleman of deep integrity. I can remember him also as such a good foreign correspondent.

I too shed a tear, brilliant jounalist, superb broadcaster.
Not many of them left, sad to say.

When he came to live in England without his family, he was enrolled at the boarding school where my husband taught for many years. He was a pupil before my husband taught there. He was invited back to the school one Speech Night and was the guest speaker. My husband met him and escorted him and talked to him a lot that evening as it was one of my husband’s jobs to organise Speech Night. He said he was a lovely man.

I believe Alistair Appleton (Escape to the Country) went to the same school.

He seemed a genuinely lovely man. I was moved by Naga Munchettys emotional reaction to his death as she received the news while on air and had to broadcast it. She did say how much he was loved by all the newsroom.

Good luck to you both

A lovely, lovely man. One of the good guys.

A terrible disease - my dear Mum died from bowel cancer when she was 51. For that reason my sister and I have been monitored regularly for bowel cancer since 1974 which was the year she died. I'm 71 now and get tested every two years. Please get tested when it is offered - it could save your life if caught early.

Sincere condolences to George's family and remembering a dignified, intelligent and caring man who made so much of his life and the opportunities that presented to him. The world has lost a beautiful soul. Sleep well George.

Heartbroken to hear this news! A lovely, lovely man who I totally respected ! Too young, too soon and he fought so hard ! My thoughts go to his precious family !

Such a terrible loss, firstly of course to his wife and family, his friends and colleagues but also to the wider world where so few people are trusted and good journalists are absolutely vital. RIP George, and thank you

Clive Myrie's words moved me to tears as well. George Alagaih was so well respected amongst his peers.

Me too Sodapop Clive's tribute was so moving.

George was an exemplar of honest reporting, unflinching in his telling of horrendous atrocities, yet kind and empathetic in his presentation of everyday news.

A brilliant journalist and presenter.

Lollin Mon 24-Jul-23 19:36:08

I could repeat everything already said. I am so sad to hear the news. He always reported so clearly and came across as such a gentle man.
