Heard on news that the PM is not at home in connection with the black veiling on his home in Yorkshire ..surely this should not have been broadcasted or am i being over dramatic...

Sadly we, our children and grandchildren have not been to either. .
I am sure it’s a lovely experience but way over budget .

I hope that Mr.Sunak and his family enjoy their holiday and have fun in Disney.

Whatever complaints about America, Disney Parks are magical for children of all ages. Unfortunately Disneyland Paris despite being closer, doesn’t have the same magic as those in the USA.

I don't think the addresses of people in the public eye should be common knowledge. We often see politicians on TV standing outside their houses. I think it's ridiculous. That said, I wholeheartedly support Greenpeace's activities and am a member.

Don’t think our current PM is short of a bob or two. If he wants to fit alarms on his country house that’s up to him as it is to us all. I won’t waste sympathy on someone mega rich.

As for not being paid highly, politicians have a very comfortable lifestyle and if anyone says they could earn more in the city etc then they are free to do that instead.
The revolving door and their network of influential mates will ensure they continue to live in the way they have become accustomed (even though most will mess up). Cynical? Moi? Almost certainly 😕

Jetted off to California - another unnecessary trip by air.

Oh for goodness sake!
What do you expect him to do - paddle across in a home crocheted canoe?
How many tens (hundreds?) of thousands of people have flown anywhere on their holidays this year?
And how many of them have flown a short distance eg to France when there are alternatives?

Total annual amount of trips taken by UK citizens each year
Outbound tourism has fallen since the start of the pandemic in 2020, with travel restrictions and health concerns holding many travellers back. Travel is still down 23% compared to its peak, going from 93.1 million trips in 2019 to 71.8 million in 2022. However, compared to last year, UK residents took 52.7 million more trips in 2022 than in 2021, a 375% increase despite the cost of living crisis.

PM’s aren’t paid highly so I think their house/ houses should be protected.

I was surprised there was no surveillance of the Prime Minister's home, even when he and his family are absent.

Yeah I was surprised too.

They covered the house in black fabric and recorded this message while on the roof www.youtube.com/watch?
Sunak has enough money if he wanted to he could afford the very best security for his many properties.

Oreo Thu 03-Aug-23 16:25:00

How should he have got to California then, roller skates?

Well, he's not there a lot. He's usually at Downing Street or Chequers. I thought that house was more about having a residential home in his constituency?

Yes, security does seem a bit slack. Luckily, Greenpeace aren't terrorists.

Blossoming Thu 03-Aug-23 14:22:09

BBC, not BBV

Blossoming Thu 03-Aug-23 14:21:42

Here is the story on the BBV website . I don’t think the presenter or the reporter were at fault, but I’m surprised that these protesters were able to access the prime minister’s home so easily. Very poor security, could have been criminals or terrorists.

Whoever not?
PM’s have like the vast majority of the population taken a summer holiday with their family.
David Cameron used to go to Cornwall, Theresa May went walking in the Alps (I think, some mountains anyway) etc etc.
It’s no secret.

DiamondLily Thu 03-Aug-23 13:55:42

Yes, although he's got a huge house near there as well.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 03-Aug-23 13:48:03

He’s in Disney isn’t he?

DiamondLily Thu 03-Aug-23 13:33:25

No, I have it on in the morning. Sunak did a fairly long interview with Nick Ferrari.

As well as telling us his holiday plans, he fell out with a doctor by telling him that the waiting lists were caused by the strikes.

He said that we all need to dig deep (financially) and trust him to sort out the mess this country was in.

It didn't give him much credibility, to be honest.🙄

Baggs Thu 03-Aug-23 13:24:06

Thanks, DL. I'm rarely up to date with news.

DiamondLily Thu 03-Aug-23 13:22:15

Sunak was on LBC, yesterday, telling listeners that he was off to California, that afternoon, and was taking his kids to Disneyland.

He wasn't keeping it a secret.

Baggs Thu 03-Aug-23 13:20:00

I wonder if their plot would have been interrupted by police if the Sunaks had been at home.

Baggs Thu 03-Aug-23 13:19:00

I don't really understand what you are saying. Is it that we shouldn't know that the PM is on holiday?

Furthermore, did those Greenpeace protesters know before it was broadcast, and if so, how did they know, and is that why they chose the time they did choose?

Bea65 Thu 03-Aug-23 13:15:40

should have added Greenpeace Activity...
