My bank must be reading GN- it has just offered me 4% on my savings account, at last!

I have just opened an online bank account and so far I am impressed, especially with interest paid on their instant access savings accounts.

I had to ring them about a small hiccup Monday, free phone number, answered immediately and sorted in under a minute.

Perhaps we should all de-bank the banks - so to speak .

Then they can't make money out of us for fees for this, that and t'other.

I am rather annoyed with my bank at the moment and complained to them but they are digging their heels in, telling me I have to go to a branch to sort it out.
Problem is, all branches have all closed down for miles around so using an internet bank seems sensible.

I deal in antiques so there is always cash floating around my home. Some of my dealer friends like to pay me this way. I use it for taxis and to pay the gardener, cleaner and handtperson. I dont give a stuff whether they declare it or not.

Time to change banks from Nat West I think. But where to go is a conundrum.

There is a petition called Dont Kill Cash anyone can sign.

Problem is it has been set up by GB news 🤣🤣🤣🤣

We might as well spend it while we can. After all, with current inflation - it's just losing value if it's sitting in a savings account.

We need to keep using cash.

If I put it in a sock I would forget where the sock was. You really can’t win. One way or the other we are doomed to conform or we will be going back to paying our bills with cash at various counters as we ensure our utilities are kept on.

I like cash too. I don’t pay anyone in cash except the window cleaner, who is extremely well organised and businesslike and I very much doubt he’d fiddle his books. I pay tips in cash. AC and GC are often given cash for birthdays etc. I also pay cash for a small shop to save the shopkeeper having card fees deducted or waiting for their money, Otherwise I usually pay by credit card as that gives protection if there’s a problem, but pay it off every month.

However having had to comply with money laundering regs when I was working - strictly no cash accepted- I understand the problems banks have with accepting cash being paid in. They get hammered if it transpires they have accepted dirty money - and there’s a lot of it around.

I always like to have cash at home.
I pay the window cleaner, the hairdresser, the girl who does my feet, I buy postage stamps, I nip over the shop for milk etc, I pay the Avon girl, I put coins in collection boxes, I buy books in charity shops, this morning I put money in great nephews birthday card, I also paid cash for new glasses today.

I like cash, I can keep track of how much I am spending and I really only use my card for housekeeping and fuel.

I’ve just managed to climb out of an authorised overdraft (silly me paying for the privilege of spending above my modest means last summer - I’m old enough to know better) and for the first time in ages I am a few hundred ££s in the black. Yay! I keep going on line just for the pleasure of seeing it sitting there.
