"The shamelessness of Liz Truss’s honours list makes a mockery of our entire political system

The little faith the electorate has in the political class has been further trashed by these payoffs"

Suzanne Moore writing in The Telegraph

I wouldn’t mind if she had only awarded honours to two or three members of the public who had done something for the wider community. I don’t think it should be used to reward political allies.

Bl**dy farce!

I don’t agree with the honours system at all.

UK Warning Politics

Prem Sikka
UK is set for five years of "lost economic growth", the poorest hit hardest.

Inflicted by austerity, real wage cuts, profiteering, low public investment.

No party offering different policies, equitable distribution of income/wealth?

Need new politics.

Two of my neighbours have had to sell their homes and move directly because of Truss’ disastrous economic policies. Their mortgages increased so much they couldn’t afford to remain in their homes. She should be in jail not dishing out honours to her supporters.

It`s a joke,but not a funny one.

I understand that two of the nominees refused the 'honour', as presumably they felt that it would taint their future prospects.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 09-Aug-23 12:04:09

Oh HousePlantQueen that is very funny.

My dd and sil have had their mortgage increased so much a month that they are paying double what they paid last month. I lost at least ten thousand from a private pension because of Truss and Kwarteng which means I'll have to be very careful. It is ridiculous that she's entitled to give out 'honours' when she was so incompetent and resigned after a few weeks.

Disgraceful. She was a disaster as PM foisted on us by the Tory grassroots and she should not be allowed an honours list. Sunak should withdraw it immediately. We need a rule: no honours list for PM with less than say 4 years in post.

Or perhaps no honours list of more than 5 candidates after 4 years as P.M.Johnson's list was ludicrous.

Yes. I was a bit lenient. Perhaps no honours list at all for a one term PM and only 5 for a two term PM, ten for a three.

Perhaps, instead, at some point, a party will have the courage to reform the House Of Lords to something electable.
