They were just 4 miles off the French coast yet ended up in Dover as usual!!

We have given France 500MILLION to sort things their end. They must be laughing their heads off.

There should be proper processing centres, so that we can take those who we need, and those who have genuine grounds to seek asylum.

That way, with economic migrants, we would know who they are, what their skill sets are, and where they're going to live.

Refugees are different, but we would know who they were, and where they were fleeing from.

Assuming that everyone who rocks in a dinghy, passport less, are here for good reasons, or fleeing in terror, is a bit naive. And, of course, processing is taking much too much time.

These traffickers are evil, earning a fortune, and uncaring about who drowns - we do need to stop them.

You mean the illegal Rwanda scheme which is meant to be a deterrent? Fine lot of good that is. And for those of you worried about this so called infiltration by the Wagner group you weren’t worried about Lebedev being put into the House of Lords were you? and very few people were the slightest bit concerned when the Foreign Secretary, one B Johnson, was seen hung over, no security detail, at Perugia airport after a weekend at Lebedev snr's villa in Italy.

*Perhaps if the Rwanda scheme which is going through The Supreme Court at the moment had not been blocked by Labour, Keir Starmer and the left instead of getting on this dinghy last night having paid thousands of Euros to the criminal gangs they might have decided to stay in France or another safe country, actually I blame Labour and the Left for this tragedy. Labour just trying to score political points and not backing the government should hang their heads in shame*

Inaccurate again Nicenanny3. The Illegal Migration Bill passed through the Commons, was rejected by the Lords, and is now subject to court of Appeal because it was ruled unlawful. Labour don’t agree with it, but that wasn’t the reason it hasn’t progressed.

Nicenanny3 Sat 12-Aug-23 13:01:24

Perhaps but how many out of the 100,000 since 2018 who arrived by dinghy are surgeons a handful I would guess.

HousePlantQueen Sat 12-Aug-23 12:59:36

Do you really believe that a surgeon would have to pay a criminal smuggling gang to get here on a dinghy don't be ridiculous, he would go through the proper channels if he was genuine

a swift google would have shown you these as a small sample, and saved you from looking very silly, and uninformed of the difficulties of applying for asylum through what you call legal routes. I can find a few more if you like?

Whether we need anymore or not is besides the point, migrants/illegals who come over with no ID could be anyone even Wagner soldiers or ISIS, or they could be the surgeon who saves your grandchild's life. Why do you think that all of these people have nefarious intent?

If you are going to post in inflammatory language at least do your homework first Nicenanny3, because it makes a nonsense of what you say when it’s untrue.
Doctors are arriving by boat, here is a story I remembered because these men came to Cardiff so it had been on our news, but of course there are plenty more.

What are the proper channels ?
Please read about countries where people are in hiding because they fear for their lives, e.g. the female judges in Afghanistan. They can't actually go to the airport , passport in hand and aid centres have been closed. What is the proper channel then ? You can be a well qualified person but be on the wanted list , just for voicing an opinion.

First dead asylum seeker is from Afghanistan (BBC news) someone who would almost certainly have been given asylum if he had been able to apply for it. You have to be in the UK to apply for asylum! Shame on some of the posters on here, not one shred of humanity shown by some of you. I am truly sickened.

More scroungers to house while students are told to travel to Manchester from Liverpool! You couldnt make it up.

You can. Shame on you.

So now it’s anti migrant, anti French, anti RNLI rhetoric! How about anti government for not doing anything to sort this problem out? But no, they’ve succeeded in getting people to think it’s everyone else’s fault…

And while everyone is distracted by 'illegals' this country's services are being run into the ground and fat pockets filled by corrupt contracts. For heaven's sake, wake up folks, you are being gaslit.

Biglouis shame on your lack of humanity. This morning it appears people have died out of desperation. You can see scrounging in many situations rarely through such measures.

Coronation Sat 12-Aug-23 12:17:40

@ mamie thanks. I don't know much about the system but I thought if you were settled your family can come too? Surely there's another route than risking your life to get here as it is a recent trend.

I understand about speaking English, but risking your life? Paying lots of money for people smugglers? I think I would be tempted to learn another major langauge rather than riskw life.

silverlining48 Sat 12-Aug-23 12:05:01

RIP to the six who died today, every one of them with families and friends who may never know what happened to their loved ones.

silverlining48 Sat 12-Aug-23 12:00:13

Like Mamie I have met a number of asylum seekers, mainly from syria, Afghanistan and Iraq who now live in Germany. They are mostly professional people who already speak good English. I dont know but they may have wanted to come to the UK because of that, but they feel welcomed where they are and grateful fir the help they have been given and have now settled in Germany.
Downside is they have to learn yet another new language. They will be expected to take official exams in German so potential employers etc will know the grades they have so far achieved. They can work or study, most do both.
Why is it so chaotic here when we have far fewer asylum seekers ( not illegals, they are human as we all are).
Ah, yes, our hopeless government. I heard each HO worker assesses one person a week....eh? One? Just the one? Cant be true?
That is where to place the blame.

Coronation

It's sad people are losing their lives in dangerous waters, it must have been terrifying for them.

I still don't understand why people are willing to risk their lives to claim asylum when they go through safe countries? This needs looking into as the issue isn't going away. I think illegal working and not needing to carry ID papers may be a factor.

I have spent time with young migrants who are being cared for in one of the many centres of support and accommodation here in France. They all wanted to go to England because they had family there and spoke the language.
They were being taught French and most said that they would now choose to remain here.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 12-Aug-23 10:39:35

What a dreadful end to a life of hardship, terror and sadness.

RIP

^They must be laughing their heads off.^

I think the whole world must be laughing at how easy we are to take advantage of

I think you'll find the same is happening in the USA with millions of refugees making their way from South America, either by boat or by foot across the Darien Gap. These people arrive in South America from all over the world and then head north into the USA. So far this year nearly 250,000 have taken the terrifying walk across the Darien Gap.

So our problems in the UK are by no means unique. There is a worldwide movement of people, heading from all the poor countries into the wealthy countries.

Did you know, Nn, that the Home Office is supposed to have a team of highly experienced officers who are trained to sniff out the fakes?

Haha 🤔

I assume you voted for the government who cut H\O staff to the bone?

I suggest you have a go at them about it instead of spreading silly stories about asylum seekers.

I'm not spreading silly stories I concerned like you should be, migrants/illegals who pay criminal gangs to get here and arrive here with no ID or any paperwork to say who or where they come from could be anyone it would be idiotic to not have concerns about them and yes they could be criminals, murderers ISIS soldiers who knows not even you
