So Putin has had his opposition die in a plane crash with Prigozhin’s death and all the others with him on the flight. What a Medieval man he is in the worst sense of the word. I fear for the future when someone that ruthless rules a vast country. It is becoming more and more alarming for the rest of us.

Another 2 years!!! I hope not but if and when he does go, will someone even worse replace him?

M0nica Fri 25-Aug-23 09:29:13

There was a very interesting interview on R4 yesterday with former Prime Minister of Russia - Mikhail Kasyanov - and now a Putin opponent.

I have tried to find a link without success, but he gave a very nuanced view on what is happening. He does not see Putin being ousted for yet awhile, but he consider that his position is getting more dangerous and unstable. he gave him another 2 years, but not much more.

Utkin on the plane but so far not heard about Mizintsev .

foxie48 Fri 25-Aug-23 07:31:11

Aoparently his Dep was also on the plane.

MOnica but the Wagner Group does have a deputy commander fired by Putin quite recently and known as the Butcher of Mariupol. I don’t know if he was killed on the plane.
Seems to me that there could be an opportunity for a realignment against Putin but I think wait about 2 months and see. Weakening the Wagner Group may well help Ukraine ?
Prigozhin has evaded previous assassination attempts so still early days.

Callistemon21 just a thought - Putin now has to negotiate/restructure the formidable Wagner Group. I think Putin must be very good at chess or more optimistically, I hope he has made a serious mistake in taking out Prigozhin and it’s the beginning of the end…..

I'm not optimistic ☹
(Unusual for me)

M0nica Thu 24-Aug-23 21:47:11

The Wagner group is no longer formidable, Putin has taken out its leader and deputy and it does not have a hierachical command structure where each person knows the man aboves's job.

The Wagner group is now a headless chicken, running round in circles with no command structure. Bit by bit the Wagner group will be assimilated back into the Russian armed services, and where they choose to keep it seperate, possible in Africa, the new senior officers will be Russian army officers.

It’s all just sheer coincidence

Indeed, such as amazing number of coincidences.
Litvinenko, the Skripals, and, and and. The list is never ending although I forget all the names.
Putin is evil personified.

Namsnanny Thu 24-Aug-23 17:11:36

Ooo ronib I know very little about chess, but you've piqued my interest....

What real proof is there that the real Prigozhin was on this flight and not a double? What real evidence is there that Putin was involved?

What real evidence is there that Putin was involved?
Well, there won't be. Nor in any of the other murders and attempted murders involving Russian dissidents.

It's all just sheer coincidence 🤔

Sparklefizz Thu 24-Aug-23 10:04:40

heard, not head

Sparklefizz Thu 24-Aug-23 10:04:15

Just head on the BBC News that "if Prighozin wasn't on that flight, he soon will be!"

nanna8 Thu 24-Aug-23 10:04:14

Sorry but it wasn’t meant to be witty and I hadn’t seen another thread.I see no humour in the situation whatsoever but perhaps you do ,Maizie ? I suppose we all look at life differently.

Just seen the other thread!

When I shut my laptop down last night it was third thread from the top in N & P. I'm just surprised that the OP managed to miss it...

Not making an issue of it. Just saying ...

eazybee Thu 24-Aug-23 09:40:48

No-one seems to have expressed the slightest concern for the other people on the plane. That sums up Russia completely.

MerylStreep Thu 24-Aug-23 09:07:37

So one evil bastard wipes out another evil bastard: half the job done.

Well if it looks like a duck, smells like a duck and quacks……

While in an ordinary air crash, it might be far too early to speculate about the causes, few will believe this was an accident.
Not two months to the day after the mutiny. Not with the aircraft falling like it had been shot down. Not with Prigozhin on board.

‘If you come at the king”, says one of the gangsters in the TV show The Wire, “you’d best not miss.”
On June 24, Yevgeny Prigozhin went for the king.

MaizieD Thu 24-Aug-23 08:54:20

Very witty, but why two threads?

foxie48 Thu 24-Aug-23 08:40:20

Well if it's true and no reason to believe it isn't, one very bad man has got rid of another very bad man. However, it still leaves lots of armed bad men running around in Africa and other parts of the world doing very bad things.

M0nica Thu 24-Aug-23 08:30:16

ronib Is the Pope a catholic?

Sparklefizz Thu 24-Aug-23 08:15:27

Anyone who opposes Putin seems to come to a surprising end - falling out of windows, etc

Don't forget Litvinenko (sp?) and the Salisbury poisonings.

Katie59 Thu 24-Aug-23 07:34:13

Of course it could have been a accident pure and simple but I don’t think many will mourn Prigozhin, I’m sure Putin fears exactly the same sort of accident but I’m sure his security team is more careful.

ronib Thu 24-Aug-23 05:00:25
