Why not sell his non-ULEZ car and use the proceeds to buy a ULEZ compliant car? You do not have to go in for the scrappage scheme and buy new.

If he has any friends or family say, 50 miles from London, he should be able to get a ULEZ compatible car without a premium for being ULEZ. He could sell his current car that way.

Really? Time to think again. This example of 'least able to afford it' is just pathetic. A cab to the shops and doctor is far cheaper than running a car.

I'm far more concerned about those people having their lives cut short by air pollution, the children with lungs injured by NO2, at risk of chronic lung disease. At least ULEZ is a small step in the right direction.

If you're talking about her comments re the carnival, she is right. Do you know how many people were stabbed on Monday, 8, yes 8. One critical, one in a serious condition but stable condition. One police officer sexually assaulted, another in hospital, 6 others bitten. Just look at the pictures and open your eyes. Some people do not like the truth. Very 😡

Khan refuses to stop free transport for the oldies and under 16s which the government want him to do. The hope is that there will be fewer and fewer non compliant vehicles . I've got a disabled freedom pass which is valid until 2025 - unlike the elderly one, it's valid 24/7. Khan changed the rules to put the elderly one back to less hours,

Monica I think we’ve discussed this before but I also have an i20 like you, but mine is eleven years old and ULEZ compliant. On the other hand my husband’s VW Passat is not ULEZ compliant although it is younger. It is nine years old. It’s a beautiful car and extremely comfortable to ride in and he has no intention of changing it yet. We went into central London recently to the theatre and we went in the Passat. We paid the Congestion charge and ULEZ because we crossed both areas on our way into the city. We went in the Passat because it is such a comfortable car, and because my car needs a new part on the air conditioning (I’ve had the gas topped up but it turns out it needs a new, quite expensive part) and as I’m taking delivery of a new i20 next month, I don’t think it’s worth having the new part fitted. We don’t travel into central London often enough to be worried about the charges, although I’m glad my son no longer lives in Ealing as we used to do a day a week childcare for him and now Ealing is included in the ULEZ scheme.
I have very mixed feelings about this. We need cleaner air but those who will be paying these charges are the ones least able to afford them. I saw on the morning television programme an 82 year old man who only uses his non compliant car to go shopping and to the doctor’s. He cannot afford to scrap his car and he cannot walk to the shops. i had an 2001 nissan almera that was compliant.
rather annoyed i had to get rid of it for other reasons.
you need to check the reg plate, can't just go by years.
though obviously, the older it is, less likely to comply.

Approximately 80% of the vehicles on UK roads already meet minimum ULEZ emissions standards: Euro 4 for petrol (from January 2006) and the tougher Euro 6 for diesel (from September 2015).
This means that every petrol or petrol-electric hybrid Toyota produced since January 2006 is ULEZ compliant and therefore exempt from paying this surcharge.

This could cause much confusion.

I have a newer Yaris, M0nica, and didn't realise you'd changed yours. Mine is still not compliant.
