Another spectacular week in Toryland!

Gove’s overturn of Labour’s Schools for the Future policy leads to catastrophic school closures, damaging yet more children’s futures. Shapps brings his ‘get rich quick’ skills to the defence secretary role. Braverman announces overworked police must take on more work while ignoring corruption all around her. Gove scores a hat trick relaxing environmental regulations for property developers - great for election donations. Interestingly Dorries’ book suddenly needs more checking so publication moved away from Tory conference (those pesky publishers obviously encouraged to realise what’s ahead). Sunak faces fresh allegations of conflict of interest over Deal with India. What joys await us in the next week?

Gove has admitted and apologised that he made a massive boo boo which apparently was realised not long after -

What, cancelling the Building schools for the Future' plans?

Apparently, though, his academisation programme has caused some problems because a lot of school buildings were handed over to Academy trusts without any accompanying documentation connected with their building and maintenance history.

(I have to confess that I was, selfishly, pleased when he cancelled the BSF programme because the school I worked at was in the process of being forced to amalgamate with its local rival in a new building on a most unsatisfactory site)

Casdon - just following example of there’s loads if you look. Well I have looked and there isn’t any evidence of backbenchers writing to the 1922 Committee .
David Blunkett writing in Telegraph - surprisingly!

Not sure why you say surprisingly. Tories sometimes write an opinion piece in the Guardian and Labour supporters in the Times or Telegraph. It's been happening for as long as I've read broadsheets - 57 years to be exact.

Yes cancelling the Building for the Future programme. Apparently on R4 this morning.

Sunak is getting his pants in a twist over taking some of the blame😄😄.

Never fails to amaze me and this is yet another set of “cock ups”

Chris Pincher has lost his appeal against suspension for groping other men.

Possible by-election?

Jess20 Mon 04-Sep-23 12:42:18

Next the surveyors looking at the bloody concrete will struggle with the mould and asbestos in the older buildings and removal and repair will be to risky around small children's lungs. Then, it's well known that many hospitals are also built of the same materials and so is much social housing. Hopefully the school problems will trigger further safety measures before there's a catastrophic collapse and people are hurt or worse. Small state really does equal shit state IMHO.

Thank you MaizieD (sorry if misspelt) that is a very interesting post

Talking with a friend who thought we are the most corrupt country in the world? we are far from it,imagine what life is like for those who are in the most corrupt countries, at least we can eventually boot them out, if enough people put their brains in gear!

This is from 2022 but shows how chaotic this government has been. Even if you only allow a few weeks for a minister to get up to speed on how a department works, they can't possibly be doing a good job before they are moved on

Some offices are more turbulent than others. Since 2010 the country has had 11 culture secretaries, nine education and justice secretaries and eight environment, housing and work and pensions secretaries.

Roll on the Revolution! Surely it must be round the corner. Everything's broken. This must be the crumbling of the old order, to make way for a new, better, more collaborative system...

55% of people think that the government is sleaze ridden and corrupt.

As few as that?!

Bra erman is not saying the police have ro take on more work, she is saying they have to start doing their job for a change

Keegan has announced (I paraphrase) that no one ever tells her what a f….g good job she is doing, and the others aren’t getting off their arses to help.

Apparently No 10 has “full confidence”

ronib Mon 04-Sep-23 15:48:07

Www2 Braverman allegedly said the police should stop taking the knee …

Www2 Braverman allegedly said the police should stop taking the knee …

Not clear why they aren’t doing their job though. Presumably if they are taking the knee (?) they are doing so at football matches? Which of course is outside of their normal duties.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 04-Sep-23 15:59:35

Apparently it is the interviewers fault that Keegan swore😄😄😄.

So she said sorry on his behalf

westendgirl Mon 04-Sep-23 16:01:04

Since when should the cabinet be thanked for doing the job which they should have done in the past?
.Gillian Keegan shows how unfit for the job she is and then tries to blame schools. Her interview with the BBC? is painful to watch .
Makes a pair with don't blame me Sunak.

She even grinned when she was supposedly apologising. This on top of saying, on A level results day, that in a few years time they would be irrelevant. Oh, they’ve just said Sunak has full confidence in her. We know what that means…..she’s toast!

Your friend obviously hasn’t travelled much outside the UK.

Dinahmo Mon 04-Sep-23 16:24:30

How about if we change the sentence to exchange"the world" to "the western world". She wouldn't be far out.

55% of people think that the government is sleaze ridden and corrupt.

What on earth is wrong with the other 45% that they can't see what is going on?

Whitewavemark2 Mon 04-Sep-23 18:29:54

According to John Soper, Keegan has signed off a £34 million to refurbish her offices.

MayBee70 Mon 04-Sep-23 18:40:54

Apologies if this has been mentioned but is it true that Gillian Keegan has just signed off a 34 million pound deal to refurbish her offices? It can’t be true can it?
