Barclays getting tough?

I don't really understand why people living abroad don't just open accounts in the country they are living in.

My son had an English bank account, but when he married an American girl, he emigrated out here, and then opened an American bank account.🙂

I’d take my money and run and use another bank. If enough do that they will suffer, serve them right. My Dad banked with them and when he died they purloined a large sum from his account. Disgusting people.

Australian banks are pretty ruthless too!

Already they are suffering drop in profits 10% apparently due to customers paying off debt and using savings.
Nat West also cutting of money lines to expats in Northern Cyprus, one had an account for over 40 years. Of course if you can't prove you have money to live on, you are expelled from the country.
Banks have too much power over the money deposited with them.

Northern Cyprus isn’t in the EU, it’s under Turkish invasion.

Our account was closed and we didn't get any warning. It took us a year of letters, e-mails and in the end, threats of legal action' to get our money back.

Already happened to me, credit card and bank account rescinded. It's actually illegal I believe to use someone else's address.
I had an extra problem in that I am in receipt of an occupational pension which can't be paid into my French bank. I resolved the problem by using an on line bank. I was quite nervous about it but they were extremely helpful sending an email with step by step instructions and talking through my concerns on the phone. I still don't have a credit card though.

This has been happening over the last two years at least with various British banks, I believe HSBC will still accept non resident customers.
Some people I know in Europe use a relatives address, or have an arrangement with a friend/family member, useful if you rent your UK property out.
