I went through the entire County trying to find an NHS dentist, and there are not any taking ordinary patients. None whatsoever.

I went through a similar exercise and ended up going to a private dentist recommended by two different friends.

Quokka but we can get gp appointments here in England under a new system that has been implemented and working well. Plus I found an excellent Nhs dentist who does have availability. It just took some initiative finding her. So why are you blaming politicians for the way local health services are run? My Mp isn’t involved in these services as far as I know.
The air quality has improved in recent years too. As for sewage I don’t know.
My grandson is receiving an excellent start in an outstanding early years nursery delivered by really caring staff. Again without any guidance from the local Mp.
The energy crisis is I agree something that needs addressing and I am pretty furious about it. But I don’t believe Starmer will halve my bill or bring it down to an affordable level. But he can try ….

Wow, Ronib I was about to ask you which corner of Utopia you live in, so that I can move there at once, but then I realised that if you posted that on GN it would immediately fill up to overflowing with older people from everywhere else in the country, so I didn't bother.

I think that ronib’s corner can be found under utopia if you look carefully 😄😄😄

I note that Sunak has failed to gain a “conference bounce”.

Polls show that the Tories remain at 24%

Sunak personal poll rating remains way behind Starmer.

There are some people on GN who say "ooh, some good news at last about politics".
And I think, oh my gosh.

fancythat Sun 08-Oct-23 08:20:24

Want more of the same?

No. But many of us fear we will get worse.
And yes, it is so possible to get worse or far worse.

It is vey simple.

Want more of the same?

Happy that you can’t get a GP appointment? And have to wait for years to get a new hip?

Or that your grandchildren are missing out on their education?

Or that you are paying through the nose for gas and electricity while the energy companies reap huge dividends?

Or that the air we breathe is poisoning us and our rivers are full of sewage?

Signed - it made me feel a bit better. I'll vote for the lesser of two evils every time. It's not as if we have anything to lose. I just can't wait!

Very wise.

Labours "seismic win" was due to tories voting labour to keep the SNP out...that and the ridiculously small turnout .Grass roots in Scotland will vote SNP until we gain independence ,lets face it Labour left councils with huge PFI debts that eat up a huge chunk of our budget and the tories...wll what can I say.Corrupt ,lying ,cheating, thieving from the public purse etc.Who in their right mind would vote for them?Scotland hasn't voted for them in any numbers since 1955 thats right NINETEEN FIFTY FIVE .Almost 70 years ago,an we're not stupid enough to do it now!

I think it's a better option that spoiling your vote or not voting at all. agree MaisieD.
Also disagreeing with one policy isn't a good reason not to give Labour a chance. Its really the only way to get rid of this present government. If people don't do that, Conservative government will think they can do whatever they like. It's pretty obvious.

Elegran Fri 06-Oct-23 19:45:43

"Five years guaranteed in power" means that they cannot be closed down before the five years are up, because they are guaranteed those five years.

"No longer than five years" means that even IF the government manages to survive for five years, they will then be closed down anyway. That doesn't mean that they can't be closed down before the five years are up. There are ways of getting rid of an unpopular government.

JaneJudge Fri 06-Oct-23 19:36:20

Well I've signed and I now realise I have moved to a different constituency than I thought I had!

ronib Fri 06-Oct-23 19:16:44

Please explain Elegran … 5 years is 5 years

Elegran Fri 06-Oct-23 19:14:10

MaizieD no completely forgotten about the repeal to the LibDem fixed parliament act…. But arguably five years guaranteed power no matter what isn’t much of a change?

"five years guaranteed power" is not the same as "no longer than five years"

Yes, I agree. Even with my difficulty in deciding who the devil to vote for, I will definitely vote for someone. I regard it as both a duty and a privilege.

Parsley3 Fri 06-Oct-23 11:04:58

Even if they didn't win the seat I've always thought that voting for a minority party at least adds to the number of people they can see voted for them and that may give them some encouragement for the future.
I agree.Once upon a time, the SNP was the minority party so it is not true to believe that your vote will never count and look at the Tory Red Wall victories in the last GE.
People should exercise their right to vote, even if it is for the Monster Raving Loonies.

Joseann Fri 06-Oct-23 10:40:49

Thanks MaizieD, I might.

I don't understand people who say there's no one better to vote for. They can't be worse. Surely we need to give someone else a chance.

I would definitely give the Greens a chance, but they just aren't up to speed on so many vital issues in terms of running the country. Plus there aren't enough of them to take things forward.
I will not vote for the party which will make things worse for my family. (VAT on x 4 school fees). I could vote for the Lib Dem porn tractor replacement here, but then the Conservatives would win anyway.

Even if they didn't win the seat I've always thought that voting for a minority party at least adds to the number of people they can see voted for them and that may give them some encouragement for the future..
