Hamas has attacked Israel

(1001 Posts)

It’s being reported that Hamas has launched 400 plus rockets into Israel along with its men shooting Israeli civilians in the streets.

Israel has retaliated with extreme force, are we heading for yet another all out war in the Middle East?

I was scrolling X (Twitter) and found the most appalling video posted by Hamas showing a dead Israeli women, stripped naked and being driven around whilst her body is being abused.

I do not think I can ever remove those images from my brain, yet again women being abused/defiled by men as an act of war.

So far on this thread alone we have had a politician isnt to be trusted as his wife is Jewish, that the Jews in America have too much influence, trope after trope, it quite astounding to watch.

One word:
Antisemitism

NO and more NO. You can keep repeating it ad nauseum, it will not make it become true.

Here is a really interesting and balanced TED talk about the issues. Really worth spending time listening to the end, looking at all aspects of this conflict.

Really interesting discussion at the end about the role of social media, about the hatred and ploarisation. And about how so many people in the West right now view all Palestinians as equivalent to Hamas. That perception will make things so much worse for those who have suffered the most, the stateless and powerless Palestinians from Gaza- thos who now find themselves the target of mass bombing, without water, power, food or medical supplies and care.

Social media and hatred, deliberately fanning the flames. And accusation of antisemitism thrown far and wide at all who condemn totally what Hamas has done, and also feel huge sympathy for the ordinary Palestinians who are now paying the terrible price. This does NOT mean they are antisemitic, not one iota in any shape or form.

We don’t know exactly what how those poor people were killed last Saturday. It’s absolutely horrific if true but we do need independent corroboration before repeating this as truth.

Would you believe Jeramy Bowen? His boss, the head of bbc news outlet described what Jeramy had reported back to him.
It wasn’t pleasant. But you don’t want to believe it, do you?

There is plenty of independent corroboration out there.

Jeremy Bowens account is harrowing.

How totally unpleasant this post has become. It is a terrible situation and the people of Israel and Palestine deserve more respect.

The USA Secretary of State, is backing up the evidence of the atrocities in Israel.

youtube.com/watch?v=JBizXm9H_Ds

This video (if it works) contains a video of Hamas talking about how they strategized the attack.

He seemed very proud.

"This video isn't available anymore" :-(

GrannyGravy13 Fri 13-Oct-23 17:08:19

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, has said that America is trying to negotiate to get hostages out of Gaza and aid in.

They are being hampered due to Hamas using the hostages as human shields and their unwillingness to negotiate.

^Whoever it was who accused me of unconscious bias ........

Well, I accused you growstuff as I'm sure you know.
As I understand the phrase, your comments were straight out of the play book

Substitute another race in the place of Jews, and see what you think then?

This thread isn't for personal spats to be acted out.

So I say again if you have anything to say to me please take it off this thread.

For the sake of other posters.

No cabal, growstuff I'm just trying to stop a gransnet bun fight/pile on which will affect others besides just us two.

I'm not even going to discuss it with anyone.

I don't do PMs.

It is quite clear growstuff.

I've been off the thread for a while but that post shocked me.

You say:
It was careless of me to compare Jews with bedbugs

So you make an analogy then say it was careless of you.
Carelessly anti-semitic? Is that better or worse than carefully anti-semitic?

I'm not sure I should explain again - in case I'm accused of referring to a deleted post.

Here goes, anyway ...

There is no way that Hamas will destroy all Jews. From the beginning, I've wondered what on earth they're thinking of.

All I was saying was that it's impossible.

As it so happened, at the time I was reading an article about bedbugs and how it is impossible to eradicate them completely.

I was thinking that there are two scenarios which are impossible and somehow they were together in my mind. It didn't even occur to me to compare Jews to bedbugs - it was the action I was referring to, not the subject - although I realise with hindsight that it was a careless and thoughtless analogy and I have apologised.

Anybody who has ever read my posts about Nazism and Nazi language in particular knows that I would never ever sink to that level. I am possibly more aware of anti-semitic (and other racist) tropes than many. Whoever it was who accused me of unconscious bias really needs to observe.

And Jaberwok - thanks!

growstuff Fri 13-Oct-23 16:31:47

Thank you MayBee. I'm glad somebody reads my posts and knows what I'm like.

BTW I don't do PMs, so there's no point messaging me. What you see is what you get - not secret cabals.

Namsnanny Fri 13-Oct-23 16:03:00

It was left until you posted jaberwok😂

Jaberwok Fri 13-Oct-23 15:59:21

Oh FGS, I'm certain that growstuff most certainly did not mean any disrespect for her comment. She has apologised for any careless analogy which I'm sure all of us have at times been guilty of, so just leave it at that and move on. It does perhaps bear out the importance of proof reading!!

Namsnanny Fri 13-Oct-23 15:52:47

Why wade in Maybee70?
Let's not turn this thread into a bun fight.
Growstuff and myself are capable of coping with our own positions.

Lets keep this thread for every one to voice their opinion.

If you or growstuff feel you want to address me why dont you pm?

fancythat Fri 13-Oct-23 15:51:43

It was a terrible comment from growstuff.
GN deleted it[I didnt see the original].

But she has apologised.
Understandably terribly difficult for some.
We should accept the apology.

Galaxy Fri 13-Oct-23 15:50:29

There has been antisemitic tropes throughout this thread. We are going to keep challenging them, however hurt peoples feelings get.

Careless analogy.... its beyond comment.

Try reading it properly then and stop twisting!!

What I meant is that both acts are impossible.

Sorry to every one who wants a thread to speak about this issue, and not a GN kerfuffle but I must answer this,
growstuff unconscious bias comes to my mind.

That’s a vile accusation aimed at someone who has apologised for using a topical analogy. She isn’t like that. It is, however, impossible to discuss this situation without being accused of condoning heinous crimes.
