I think it’s even further Meryl. The Old Testament documents the persecution of the Jews way before Christ. Remember the enslavement of the Jews (Israelites) by the Egyptians and the story of Moses who led them to freedom. I know many people don’t believe what’s in the Bible but it does document some history whether you are a believer or not.
Christ lived some 2000 years ago and remember the parable of the Good Samaritan. That story was based on the hatred between Jews and other tribes.
Conflict has raged in present day Israel for thousands of years.

Hamas has attacked Israel
(1001 Posts)It’s being reported that Hamas has launched 400 plus rockets into Israel along with its men shooting Israeli civilians in the streets.
Israel has retaliated with extreme force, are we heading for yet another all out war in the Middle East?
I was scrolling X (Twitter) and found the most appalling video posted by Hamas showing a dead Israeli women, stripped naked and being driven around whilst her body is being abused.
I do not think I can ever remove those images from my brain, yet again women being abused/defiled by men as an act of war.
100 years back might be enough Meryl.

Did you think that anyone commenting on this thread needed to be told that Gideon Levy is a Jew?
Thankyou Yes jane it’s the 2022 report.
Not everyone that knows the back history galaxy.

Please look at amnesty international report online which may explain the current situation in a straightforward uncomplicated way.
It would be of interest to anyone who wants to learn more about the history to this, because it does go much further back than last week.
We are living in dangerous times.
Sorry I don’t have the tech ability to attach.
Roughly about 2,000 years.
I’m another who thinks the UN pretty useless. Their main job is to keep the peace wherever possible and they seem unable or unwilling to do so. The WHO was equally useless during Covid in my opinion. These organisations, funded by many countries, seem to be toothless and unable to do the jobs they were set up to do.
Just my opinion.
sorry i think it's this

The UN is an outdated waste of time. We need something different with a few teeth.
This is the report

Dear God silver lining do you think we dont know that.
The amnesty report was published last year.

Terribull I agree.
The UN and UN Security Council seem increasingly pointless.
They are supposedly peacekeepers.
About as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.
The Balkans ?

I am quite sure you didn't read the article I posted.
What so many Jewish people are saying, both in Israel and around the world- is that they absolutely condemn what Hamas has done. This is what the vast majority of those who fear for the Palestinian people now also believe- but also strongly feel, is that Netanyahu's extreme right ideology and massacre of the people of Gaza, not 100s, but 1000s, without water, power, medication, or anywhere to go- is putting them all at risk now. Saying this is not antisemitic- as it is mainly Jews, and Jews who live it all first hand in Israel, saying it.
Please read the article above by Gideon Levy. He is a Jew, in Israel. Like my friends and their families.

Yes I read her article, I think it's quite difficult for people to know what to do to support Jewish people, but it's true I have the Ukraine flag up, it's a valid point.
Palestinian supporters are marching in their thousands ( about 10,000) here against Israel. Very unsettling and I think at this stage all such marches should be banned. Sometimes you can be too ‘democratic’, especially in war situations. Anti Semitism is raising its ugly head once more.
The UN are useless, an organisation that has had trillions of pounds thrown at it since it's inception, like most unwieldy, large pontificating bodies, weighed down by red tape, incompetence and corruption, they achieve very little. Yes it would be good if there were some impartial entity, with the wisdom of Solomon who could go into places such as Israel and Gaza to bring in some sort of mutually acceptable scenario to end all the bloodshed, but I doubt whether the UN, being the toothless tiger they are would make a difference.
Reading Hadley Freeman in the ST this morning, she laments the fact that she hasn't seen one poster in any one's window showing the Star of David in support of the citizens of Israel, in contrast to all the Ukranian flags and Black Lives Matter posters in the aftermath of the outbreak of the invasion there and George Floyd's killing. She also pointed out that whilst the skewed attitude of the BBC contrasting their efforts not to mis-gender the rapist known as Isla Bryson but couldn't on the other hand describe Hamas as terrorists in spite of all the horrors they committed including murdering babies.

It is the innocent on both sides who will suffer and are suffering.
That is why arming 10,000 Jewish settlers in the West Bank is such a bad idea. Imagine how this must feel to Palestinians living there who know what is happening to the Gazans. It is totally shocking behaviour and provocative in the extreme. They must be terrified.
Imagine how the Israeli citizens feel, having seen what happened 9 days ago to their fellow countrymen living close to Gaza. They are terrified, the most number of Jews killed in one day since the holocaust.
As of yet I have not seen one Palestinian come out and say that what Hamas did last week was the most despicable acts of violence and butchery seen since Daesh.
It’s time for Palestinians worldwide to stand up and condemn Hamas.
I find it odd that some on here keep harping on about their “Jewish friends in Israel”. Call me a cynic but …..
Perhaps they are all a long way from the border out of rocket range 🤔

As always, it's the innocents who get caught in the middle. ☹

Rockets are being fired into Israel all the time. It’s not newsworthy anymore but this is how Israelis live. I find it odd that some on here keep harping on about their “Jewish friends in Israel”. Call me a cynic but…..
A pity the Palestinian supporters in Europe don’t take to the streets condemning Hamas. They’re the ones enslaving their people and making their lives a misery. Most of the aid sent from the west doesn’t go on schools and infrastructure but on arms and rockets. It seems to escape many on here that the homes on the Kibbutz’s had safe rooms. Why do you think that is? The ones that managed to reach those rooms were burned alive. I despair, I really do.

GrannyGravy - you might believe that Israel are doing the right thing for a good reason, but what they are doing to Gaza is still a genocidal massacre and it is totally right that people criticise and protest against this
I think Israel has no choice other than to seek out Hamas and destroy them after the atrocities they committed 9 days ago.
No country can sit back on its laurels after such an incident.
Whether or not I think it is the right thing to do is immaterial, as my opinion holds no sway.
I feel so deeply sad for all of the civilians in Gaza and Israel.
I also know that my Jewish friends in the U.K. are fearful when they see antisemitism rising it’s ugly head in U.K., Europe and beyond once again.
