Thankfully you do know the history of Palestine Callistemon. I did point it out last night but it was pretty well ignored. I’m absolutely sure that many people have little, or no, knowledge of the history. The Jews lived in Palestine for centuries. That was their homeland. But they were driven out of their homeland by the other tribes, and I believe Nebuchadnezzar. This is all ancient history of course. The Jewish people, after being driven out of their homeland, settled in Europe and other countries. In Europe they were persecuted for centuries, and there were frequent pogroms against the Jews and they had to continually move to supposed safer places. This all ended in Europe with the Holocaust, after which the Jews realised they needed their own homeland back, as living in other countries wasn’t safe. The more modern history, post 1945, tells us how they fought to establish their own homeland again. I really do wish people would understand the whole, very complicated truth. As someone upthread said, the history of Israel goes back to 1947. No! It goes back centuries and the Jewish people have every right to live in the land that was taken, by force, from them.

The history is documented in the Bible.

The Bible also says, the issue will never be resolved.

It’s horrible and the frightening thing is that it is just the beginning of the slaughter on both sides. It will spread and affect the whole world.

When lands were taken, by force, from countries in Europe, during World War Two, British servicemen and women fought to evict the occupiers and allow the countries to regain their sovereignty. Unfortunately it took until 1989 for all those countries to be liberated.
I fully support the land of Israel as a sovereign state established by the Jews. Many Palestinians live peacefully in Israel as full Israeli citizens. Hamas is a terrorist organisation. I do not support terrorism.

It is reported tonight that around 700 Jewish citizens have died, and around 400 Palestinians. What a tragic loss of life. And Hamas terrorists surrounded a festival full of young people and slaughtered around 260 of them. How can any person support any of this? Yet I know, they do.

I am appalled at tbis invasion by Hamas.i hope people in UK know that Hamas is a proscribed terrorist organisation in Great Britain and supprting their action in Israel is unlawful. I would have no hesitation in reporting anyone who writes in support of their action in Israel. My friends and neighbours in NW London have different faiths but many are long established Jewish families who i like and admire.Just saying because some people think they can throw the term racist around so dont do it here please.

Not at all- we are all very aware of this. Many many lands have changed hands over many centuries. Should Istria return to Italy. Sicily to Constantine. Scotland to the Picts. Southern England to the Saxons and Angles? And on, and on?

Videos of a migrant camp in Greece showed Palestinians and other asylum seekers cheering in response to the attacks from Gaza.

The footage, published on TikTok, was reportedly taken on the eastern Aegean island of Samos, where the Greek government has set up a “closed” migrant camp surrounded by barbed wire.

Refugees there, many of whom are from Syria and Iraq, reportedly chanted “Allah Akbar” – “God is great”.

Harking back to the Nakba (or the Nazi Holocaust) is not going to solve the problem. The present fact is that the Israelis and the Palestinians (strictly speaking, their politicians and those who support them on both sides) dispute ownership of the same land and both are prepared to fight for it. Despite some rhetoric Arab states are not prepared to support the Palestinians. Only Iran is clearly involved as it is elsewhere. If there is no possibility of a negotiated solution with the help of third parties then it will be a matter of which side can make their case stick from time to time through military means. That is sad but I can't see any other outcome.

The land has been stolen from te Palestinian people, in the most violent and disgusting way. And as the article above says, we all knew that one day this would happen, as too much suffering, humiliation and sheer theft of land and dignity would lead to this. And that this is exactly what Netanyahu wanted- the final excuse for the final destruction of Palestine.

So many opinions online everywhere about everything. Most have never fully researched the problems they have opinions about or just believe whatever side they politically agree with. I’ll just leave this here.
I have a relative who lives in a kibbutz near Sderot. The family is hosting German exchange teenagers who were going to Kfar Aza but were invited to her house which probably saved them from unbelievable suffering, kidnapping, rape or murder alongside many people on that Kibbutz. We personally know people who have been kidnapped. Women, teachers, girls and young children from the local school.
Her friend’s grandfather was shot dead, her father is in hospital and her mother was hiding from the terrorists in her house. They don’t know where she is now.
I know many people from the area as I often visit. They are peaceful, friendly and enjoy a western way of life.
We have many gay friends who are ‘out’ and have Pride events in Tel Aviv. It’s the only true democracy in the Middle East.
I am devastated at the atrocities I’m hearing about from my family. Things not reported on msm. Totally barbaric.
Israel is a tiny country in a massive Middle East. She has a right to exist. The positive moves to a peaceful trade agreement with Saudi Arabia was making good progress before this terrorist attack. No doubt Iranian funded Hammas is against that.
Israeli’s greatest fear is that if Palestine is given a two state solution and free movement in and out of Israel, this massacre will be tiny compared to what Hammas/Isis etc intends for innocent Israelis.
Some extreme ‘leaders’ are on record as preaching that all Jews are the enemy and should be killed even if they made peace with Palestine. This is the reality.
I’m a non Jewish atheist so cannot pray for the victims on both sides, but hope this war ends soon. There is no real answer to this. However, I do stand with Israel 🇮🇱

All you need to do is ask yourself, if Iran is a friend and maybe Russia or China shouldn’t I be supporting the other side? In this case, Israel.
Hamas and their would be helpers Hezbollah are nothing but a bunch of barbaric medieval terrorists sporting high tech stuff.

I can’t support this terrorism. From either side. But either you support the right of Jewish people to a homeland after the pogroms and attempted genocide they have suffered over the centuries or you don’t. Remember the British played no small part in establishing the state of Israel. Maybe we should take a greater part in the peace keeping.
