European Football Championship in U.K. 2028

My family will be happy with that.
I'm sure Cardiff and Wembley are well set up for such events, and no doubt somewhere in Scotland and Ireland too. It will surely cost us in policing but I think there will be other benefits too.

Football = ££££’s

There is always a trade off between revenue for hospitality, ticket sales, merchandise etc against cost of policing.

As for transportation, lots of clubs lay on coaches for match days not just trains, more bums on seat more revenue received, more profit.

Our 8 yr old GS is already looking forward to it

MEN’S Euros to be specific.

It’s expected to generate over £2bn across the five nations, I think it’s a good thing, but biased as we are both avid sports lovers.

Good news..

Good news! It'll bring a lot of money into the country. DS and GS are making plans ...! and I'm looking forward to live sport played in my time-zone rather than the middle of the night.

We have been told before that big events equals big revenue but the City Council of Birmingham declared itself bankrupt on September 5th just a year after hosting the Commonwealth Games which used a reported 778 million pounds of public funding,
So how is this different please?

They had to build Tilly a new aquatics centre, a railway station and more. The football stadiums and other infrastructure already exist.

Birmingham Council’s problems are mainly the equal pay law suits against them which could run into billions.

I think it’s great news, I really hope the games are shared out equally so Wales directly benefits, we’ve got a fabulous stadium and all the infrastructure already in Cardiff to put as many games on as they want us to. Bring it on.

The Commonwealth Games made a net profit of about £100m for Birmingham with more ongoing economic advantages for the city as a result.

It’s a few years away yet, let’s hope it is a resounding success. One of our U.K. teams may even steal the Trophy.

Personally I wouldn't care if no more football games were ever played. I used to enjoy a game of football but these days it's all about money. I'm sure it'll make a lot of people happy though and if I'm still around I'll probably sign up for Netflix, amazon, apple tv etc. as I'm sure that all our main channels will be bombarded with football.

We don't really lounge football but we think it's great that it's coming here. Happy people, revenue for hospitality industry etc etc

It's nearly 5 years away so plenty of time to plan it properly. It'll be a good source of income for the country

Brent, which houses Wembley stadium is 13 million in the red so any extra will help their coffers.

I do not live in Brent but I am about 4 miles away and if younger I could have made money by housing some people as I have 2 spare rooms. My rent would be reasonable, I do not believe in fleecing people.

That is 5 years in the future, why worry about something so far ahead. Hopefully things will change before then. Don't worry about things you have no control over.

For Tilly - Brum Council's issues started WELL BEFORE the Commnonwealth Games! There was a radio show today (15th) on that very topic (R4 - File on 4, catch it on the sounds player) which detailed a catastrophic chain of events with incompetent (or dodgy?!) council leaders, unions exploiting them, and the upshot was massive claims for compensation over wage inequality. That is what has sent them down the toilet.
