A second thread to share our thoughts and prayers on this moving situation

The devastation in this hospital is so awful, can it lead to ceasefire so humanitarian aid can be given.

Are we then playing one up man ship with massacres and deaths?
I’m not but you evidently are with your comments appearing to justify the butchery by Hamas.

Disagreeing with the Netanyahu government is no excuse for seeking to excuse in any way the massacre of innocents.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 18-Oct-23 08:27:05

I would imagine that if it was indeed a rogue missile launched by Hamas, Israel, must be a tad worried that they’ve got their hands on such a powerful one, as nothing Hamas has launched at Israel has had such explosive power.

This will step up the war another notch if Hamas have more like that.

I am wanting to believe that it was an accident by whoever launched the missile.

But now is the time to stop and give humanitarian aid.

I agree but Hamas does not

Israel is content to deny responsibility for the hospital attack.

The meeting between Jordan’s, Egypt, Israel & Palestinians leader today has been cancelled.

Joe Biden is still due to arrive in Israel today.

fancythat Wed 18-Oct-23 07:45:48

I think it might.
It chips away at what Israel is doing.
Could be wrong.

I also question the possible "independence" of those who will investigate.
Nowadays especially, who is truly independent? In more ways than one.

Allsorts Wed 18-Oct-23 07:16:19

The truth s none of us know, this senseless killing won't alter anything.

Katie59 Wed 18-Oct-23 06:57:20

My own thoughts are that, what has Israel to gain by targeting a hospital? this expression of outrage was predictable, I suppose it could be some kind of rouge Israeli action. Much more likely is a Palestinian missile malfunctioning or possibly a deliberate explosion by Hamas, if so to achieved its objective of incensing international opinion against Israel.

Callistemon21 Tue 17-Oct-23 22:52:28

What do you do if a government is denying your people their rights and introducing more restrictive legislation?

What do you do?
Or what does Hamas do?
Two different questions and we know the answer to the second one.
Persuade young men to become suicide bombers, fire rockets on citizens of that country, plan and carry out a massacre of innocent civilians including babies and children, all the while hiding behind your own citizens.
Then express outrage when the government of that country retaliates.

I read somewhere that independent inspectors would review the bombings so maybe wait and see.
That is best. We do not know, can only assume.

It won't bring innocent civilians back, though, whatever the findings.

None of them, from either side, deserve this.

The IDF seem to be saying it wasn’t them, and what do they have to gain by targeting a hospital? Since that would turn so many people and governments against them.
On the other hand, it would be a great situation for Hamas to claim it was the Israelis who did it, to try and turn the tide in their favour.
If reporters can take pics and videos of the bombed hospital and try and verify that 500 people have really died there, it would be a start.

I read the number of deaths has been verified by Reuters, but of course I have no idea who was responsible.

I’ve been wondering where certain posters were over the last 9-10 days. Some are usually very vocal on the N&P threads. I did wonder if the massacre by Hamas and the outrage of most on here had put them off posting their normal hard left anti Israel vitriol. I knew the apologists would arrive at some point.

Perhaps that s why Hamas acted.

Acted? Acted? Slaughtered, butchered, burned alive, raped.

Thanks for showing us what I already knew.

If you fail to acknowledge the very right wing element in Israeli politics and simply blame Hamas it can of course seem so simple. But what do you suggest could have been done? What do you do if a government is denying your people their rights and introducing more restrictive legislation?

As for deaths there are more dead Palestinians. But I do hope we are not playing with death figures.

Neither side will now believe the other.
Difficult situation now for Joe Biden to fly into.

Now showing some videos of the burning building, and Israel says that Islamic Jihad is responsible for the attack, launching missiles to Israel which went near the hospital.

The problem is that we all see images on tv all the time and it’s hard to separate truth and lies.

Situations like this is when Spy Satellites are extremely useful.

A hospital in the West Bank has been bombed. Reports say 1000 have died.

Hamas say 500 people.
Best not to believe anything until it’s independently verified.
Hamas use hospitals for shelter and to launch missiles.
We will only know if it’s an explosion caused by hamas or an Israeli strike after investigation.

Investigation by whom?

Oreo Tue 17-Oct-23 20:18:49

Gaza btw not the West Bank.

IDF initial intelligence reports indicate that the explosion at the hospital in Gaza was in fact a Hamas missile that failed to launch.

Its best to wait for information/updates before making any sweeping statements

How long will Israel be allowed to excuse their behaviour by saying Hamas may be hiding among the people.
That is not the fault of the innocent civilians. They were told to leave their bombed homes, go to the south, then are bombed again, There is no escape, no water, energy, food, medical supplies. It’s inhumane.
Yes what Hamas did was also inhumane but these people who have now lost everything are not to blame any more than the Israeli victims are.

The world won't forgive this massacre. Bombing a hospital is beyond despicable

GrannyGravy13 Tue 17-Oct-23 19:56:56

If Hamas released the hostages, it would be a big step towards securing peace
