Israel, Hamas and now Hezbollah

The way to defeat extremist terrorist groups is to suck the oxygen out of what fuels them.ie poverty, oppression and no hope for a better future. As others have said Israel may want to exterminate Hamas and they might succeed in the short term but in the long term I believe they are creating a breeding ground for yet more terrorism.

How do you get peace there?

Probably not by murdering 1400 people in their beds!

Incidentally, the information about the village, who lived where, road layout etc is thought by the Israelis to have come straight from the Palestinians. The village was trying to live side by side with the Palestinians and many Palestinians worked in the village alongside the Israelis. The relevant information was passed by Palestinians to Hamas.

I certainly remember Palestinians hijacking planes in the 70s. I remember a cruise ship being taken over and I remember that Americans were targeted particularly, and on one occasion an American (I think) being shot and thrown out on the runway. So this has certainly been going on violently through recent history.

I’m very concerned about the constant ‘war crimes’ theme against Israel, because I’m not sure what Israel was supposed to do after the murder of 1400 of its citizens. What was the expectation from the world? What would any of us expected Britain to do if this happened to a British village?

Incidentally at least one baby was beheaded during the attack. I have watched an interview with a certain Col. Golan Vach, speaking to an English journalist, and he says that he has found one baby who was beheaded. He’s head of the Israeli Search and Rescue Force, and he was leading the Israelis in clearing the village which was attacked. The bodies have been taken away to forensically determine their identity as many are unrecognisable, especially if they were burnt to death. I’m rubbish with links but the interview is available with a quick Google search.

What happened in that village is more wicked, more evil, than anything the Israelis are doing. In my opinion.

This is naive in the extreme. Nakbar was just dreadful and has left terrible scars with the Palestinians- I shall share a story later that was shared to me (poor translation from Hebrew, but the story is clear). It is the massive and ILLEGAL expansion since then which makes a solution almost impossible, It is the apartheid and dreadful conditions in Gaza for the Palestinians, their total lack of access to anything in terribly crowded conditions. Their land was taken by dreadful force in 1948- but if the Jewish state of Israel had kept to this territory, it could have worked. But no, the ILLEGAL expansion went on and on, and on some more- for the past 75 years. The violence and cruelty was unbelievable and everything bit of land and dignitiy torched. How do you get peace here?

katie59 no that is entirely wrong. They are definitely not all persecuted. I have a potential new member of our family whose family are Coptic Christian’s and they are not persecuted by any stretch of the imagination.

Jews and Arabs have co-existed quite happily for millennium until the last century, in fact it has always been the Christian’s that caused the major problems - hacking their way through the so called holy land. You could argue that it is the Christian’s that are the root of the current chaos.

. Quite frankly, there is no reason why the Arabs and Jews couldn’t live side by side again. It will take an almighty will, but undoubtedly could happen.

Coexistence a century ago has no relevance today, the whole region was under colonial rule of one kind or another. It’s only in the last 50yrs or so that extreme Islam has emerged.

I don’t think either faith schools or private schools should be made illegal because we live in a free society. Banning things that are not dangerous doesn’t sit well in a free society. And indeed many things that are dangerous are not banned.

I’m concerned to learn that two Jewish schools in England were attacked with red paint yesterday. Obviously daubing a building with paint is not dangerous, but it’s a clear message. And the message is very worrying, particularly to Jewish families. I was also disturbed to see that two people were shot dead by an ISIS member (claimed to be ISIS) yesterday in Brussels. Alongside demonstrations around the world, I find all this very disturbing.

I haven’t seen any demonstrations/marches in solidarity with the Jewish community. I’m concerned by this.

I think what saddens me so much about this conflict many miles away, is that children going about their normal everyday lives in London or elsewhere have been badly affected, especially Jewish children who might be more identifiable.
There shouldn't be hostility in our country.
But I still disagree with the school itself closing its doors.

I understand the arguments against faith schools. However, I can’t imagine how and when they could be abolished.
Parents can choose to pay for private education. I see the unfairness built into that and if all children are to be given the same education, private schools need to go as well when Fleurpepper rules the world.

It’s a conundrum. Our town has Muslim schools. We have comprehensives where the Muslim children only walk to and from with other Muslim children. We have a growing African community, it’s great to see black and white children walking home together.

Why would they go to Iran? It’s their birthplace, that of their fathers going back generations. Hamza caused this not the man in the street, it was a dreadful thing Hamza did, but to slaughter the innocent in revenge isn’t right. It dehumanises people doing such acts. The only solution for this is to talk, compromise, really listen and live side by side. I dread looking at the paper today, you get rid of one terrorist group and another is formed.

Wwm2 the latest attack by Hamas took 2 years to plan and for the last 16 years, the budget has been spent on weapons and not the people of Palestine.
Hamas is the force behind this whole hatred of Israel and wants to destroy Israel as a country for the Jewish people. So far it seems that Israel has given a proportionate response?
Hamas does not have legitimate power in Palestine as elections have not taken place. I don’t think that Christians are at the root of this current crisis but it is interesting that Joe Biden is flying in to offer financial aid and support.

There are small numbers if other religions in all Arab countries but the are all persecuted. Extreme islamists like Hamas and Hezbollah want them out, they even persecute Sunni Muslims.

The prospect of Jews and Arabs living alongside each other peacefully is zero, there are far too many extreme islamist terrorists willing to die to destroy Israel.

Certainly it is a crime, and has not been forgotten, that is why we are where we are.

But you must not deny what Israel is doing is also a war crime.

Not all Arabs are Muslims - it is certainly the largest religion, but some are Jewish, some are Christian. Some will have no faith.

I think all Arabs are Muslims , the Palestinians certainly are.
It’s not just Israel, every country in the Middle East has a problem with Islamic fundamentalists who would take over if they could, it’s only a large loyal army and constant vigilance that stops them.
Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, all maintain large armies to control extremists, in addition Lebanon, Syria, and Libya are in chaos, what chance for Israel

The only countries that don’t have problems are Iran and Afghanistan the fundamentalists have already won.

There are Palestinian Christians of various churches and some are sheltering in a church in Gaza right now, along with Muslims.

That's awful if children in our country feel too scared to attend their local schools which should be all inclusive. I am appalled and frustrated.

I just feel sorry for all the innocent people, who are the victims of this terrorise group, both sides. Do not agree Israel should force those people to leave their homes with no where to go, it surely must be a war crime.
