maddyone

The BBC have just named him too.
I do not think people should be named until found guilty.

According to Sky he named himself. It looks from the article as though somebody was attempting to blackmail him?

Apparently he has said he’s confident that he won’t be charged. We can only wait and see. Many people have been arrested on suspicion of having committed an offence, only to be released without charge.

Well ……. Innocent until proven guilty should not stop this man being named when/if charged

Many men have been named and shamed then subsequently found not guilty, their lives ruined for nothing.

Rape is one of the most difficult charges to prove, especially retrospectively without any physical evidence.

Name him if and when he is found guilty.

I thought that too maddyone. However another shocking story about an MP! , but he is entitled to be innocent until proven guilty.

I thought this thread was going to be about the terrible shootings in America.

I only just saw this on the news. They are not releasing the name. That is as it should be because as others say, innocent until proven guilty.

if a person has been arrested, then this matter is sub judice.
see contempt of court act 1981, section 1, strict liability rule.
imposes criminal sanctions on both publishers and authors if deemed to have made prejudicial comment.

Sad if it's true. People have the right to be innocent until proven guilty but it's awful if people abuse their position. Unfortunately I can see houses of parliament being rife with this.

Ilovecheese

Someone will be along soon to say that the accuser is probably lying. Not been found guilty yet etc. etc..

Which is fair enough.

Callistemon21 Thu 26-Oct-23 17:47:53

Best to keep in mind that according to the laws of the U.K. you are innocent until proven guilty
True.

It does seem rather endless at the moment.

Best to keep in mind that according to the laws of the U.K. you are innocent until proven guilty.

When I read your post I immediately thought "And drugs?"
And yes, drugs are involved.

Who on earth are these people who are supposed to be our law and decision makers?

Another story MP arrested for alleged rape.
