Just that really

I had a quick look at the proposed route of the Ben Gurion canal, bypassing Gaza is not the big problem, there is a range of hills that have to be crossed and a very deep cutting is needed. It’s technically possible I’m sure but the challenges are massive, it probably wont ever get built.

By-passing Gaza would be much much longer and ad massively to cost, and travel time for goods.

Why should you worry, you’re not paying for it.In any case it’s yet another conspiracy theory along with Israel wanting over 1,000 citizens to be horribly murdered by hamas so they could enter Gaza blah blah.

Still faster than the long way round, though, Fleurpepper!

Indeed- thanks for making the point! A lot at stake, for sure. No conspiracy theory here.

It will probably all become clear at some point.

You do realise that the Ben Gurion canal project is real and has been for a long time.

It’s a blue print like many hundreds if not thousands worldwide which may or may not materialise.

Like all those about vaccines.
And Trump.

🤔

Oh dear.

tickingbird Thu 09-Nov-23 19:05:38

My point is that there is nothing genetic which makes people who identify as Jewish any different from many people in the Middle East.

You are still missing the point by some distance.

If it were genetics, Palestinians would have the same so-called characteristics. They share many genetic markers.

You’re wrong of course. Palestinians haven’t been persecuted through the ages; that’s not to say they aren’t at present though.

However, Jews have been persecuted by all and sundry for centuries. Therefore, there’s a collective consciousness which is not the case with the Palestinians,

You can read and look up on Google all you wish and will always find a piece to match your own point of view, doesn’t mean it’s correct.

On this forum I’ve recently been told I don’t have to be Jewish; I have a choice. I don’t of course; it’s a typical anti semitic response, conscious or otherwise. I provided a link I believe to Germany’s race laws at the time but, to be honest, it’s a waste of time. P*****g in the wind is the expression I believe.

No, I'm not wrong. It's not my "point of view" - it's a fact. Palestinians and Jews have almost identical genetic markers. Any "differences" between Jews and anybody else isn't genetic.

You really don't seem to understand the point I was making or genetics.

I know perfectly well that Palestinians (and other Arabs) haven't been persecuted throughout history in the same way Jews have been. There are all sorts of reasons for that, but it's not genetic.

These genetic markers are shared by many groups of people.

Yes, I know. Interestingly, many modern Israelis share genetic markers with modern Italians.

My point is that there is nothing genetic which makes people who identify as Jewish any different from many people in the Middle East.

People tend to believe conspiracy theories when they suit their views on a given subject.

'Conspiracy' theories sometime, just sometimes- show the reality. The cost of the original 1960s project would be massively cut by going through Gaza.

Callistemon21 Thu 09-Nov-23 17:21:02

The original plan from the 1960s has the canal going round the north of Gaza

Yes, as growstuff says, there was not just one route proposed, although there are a lot of conspiracy theories awash on the internet about this at the moment.

I didn’t know about the dam fleur, just another land grab.

Another example is Silwan, a Palestinian village where 150 families have been turned out of their homes and land for it to be turned into an Israeli theme park.
To be powerless in such situations leads to understandable anger and frustration.

So sorry, the Ben Gurion project is NOT A DAM, but an alternative to the Suez CANAL. Wider, deeper and run by Western powers, NOT the Egyptians (aka 'the Arabs' as seen by Netanyahu and Western Powers).

What exactly do you believe is the problem with this project, Fleurpepper?

Is it not a good idea to have an alternative to the Suez Canal so that, should problems occur as did recently when the Ever Given got stuck and £10 billion of trade was lost, there is another, a viable route?

It seems like common sense.

Well- perhaps it could make sense. Only problem is that it would have to go through the middle of Gaza, which is (was) Palestinian. Surely you can see the problem- and why absolute control of Gaza by Israel and the West is essential to achieve this.

Only problem is that it would have to go through the middle of Gaza

Not necessarily.

I know. I still don't understand why Jews are so unpopular around the world. They are a tiny minority but with disproportionate power it seems to me.

This is the kind of claim which contributes to anti-semitism.

Aveline, I’ve noticed you asking why Jews are so unpopular, why they have been subject to pogroms throughout history, why the nazi’s decided they should be exterminated. You don’t seem to understand, it isn’t that there is something wrong with Jewish people.
they are a tiny minority with disproportionate power, it seems to me is exactly the kind of view that contributed to the pogroms

No! Didn’t see it.

Here is the video * maddyone*

She is interview by Owen Jones you may not like him I don’t know but that does not detract from what this young Jewish woman is saying.

You never mention Iran's part in funding Hamas, Grany.

Perhaps look up their treatment of women if you are unaware.

Israel has announced that it will observe a four hour humanitarian pause each day to allow civilians to leave northern Gaza.

Me again - why did Germany develop race laws? I never understood what was so wrong with Jewish people that they had to be eliminated.

Nothing was "wrong" with Jewish people. Nazism was based on extreme ideological nationalism. There were only about half a million Jews in pre-war Germany, but they were considered as "others". The Nuremberg (race) laws were later extended to black people, Roma and Sintis. The Nazis also considered themselves superior to slavs. The Nazis didn't invent this kind of racism. It had been brewing for decades since the nineteenth century.
