Starmer’s Dilemma Over Palestinian Situation

(498 Posts)

This piece comes from the Conservative Party newsletter and is very even handed about Sir Keir’s awkward position. To be fair he has stared down the position of his Muslim MPs and Councillors so is taking a real decision.

Please acknowledge that this article sounds fairly sympathetic towards him.

So what do Grans think?

LizzieDrip Sun 19-Nov-23 22:53:12

Thanks DAR. This explains the situation perfectly👏👏👏

Anyone thinking Starmer has a dilemma should watch this.

I dont know how to break this to you but people singing songs about you has absolutely no impact on the country. It makes zero difference to the most vulnerable in society. If it did Gazza would be one of the most respected leaders of our country.

Corbyn gave the party the worse defeat since 1935

And there's been no peace in the party since!

😂

I often think about his mother and what she'd think.

Grany Sat 18-Nov-23 20:17:36

The membership grew with Jeremy Corbyn he brought Hope democracy. Crowds gathered to the rallies He very nearly won in 2017 but for those working for two years against the leader.

He is well liked a good constituency MP

Oh Jeremy Corbyn 🎼

The chant will be Starmer is a Liar come the election. Bought paid for by the Israel lobby.

Iam64 Sat 18-Nov-23 18:53:44

Argue as much and as long as you want about Corbyn. He was a dreadful leader of the LP. He was irritable with the press and as the election result showed, very unpopular with the public.

He did not receive the Ghandi Peace Prize which is awarded by
the Indian Government

As long as the myths are repeated, some people will believe them.
It's called the illusory truth effect.

Corbyn won the Seán MacBride Peace Prize, a remarkable achievement for someone who has been the instigator of so much discord in this country.

Anniebach Sat 18-Nov-23 18:44:33

I apologise for saying Nobel Peace Prize

Apologies it is the Ghandi International Peace Award.
I always admit when I am wrong.
Any apology about the unfounded allegation that I said he was awarded the Nobel Peace prize?

He still has 2 peace awards.

Sorry, I say no because recently you claimed Corbyn had received the Nobel Peace Prize, so not true

I have never claimed that *Anniebach. Corbyn has two peace prizes. One the Sean Macbride peace prize, the other the Ghandi peace prize. No other UK politician has been so honoured.
John Hume and David Trimble received the Nobel Peace Prize for N Ireland.

Corbyn deplores the targeting of all civilians? He certainly doesn’t deplore the murder of the Israeli Olympic Team 1972,
he attended a wreath laying ceremony for the Palestinian Militant Black September who carried out the attack

Annie The wreath was laid at a memorial to those killed in a 1985 Israeli air strike on the PLO headquarters ,an action which was widely condemned even by the US.
I post 2 photos one with Corbyn holding the wreath and one showing the wreath at the base of the memorial.
Could we lay this to rest now.

Callistemon21 Sat 18-Nov-23 16:47:58

Starmer’s 2020 party leadership campaign was secretly funded by wealthy British pro-Israel lobbyist Trevor Chinn to the tune of $62,000

Not much of a secret if it's on Gransnet!

Galaxy Sat 18-Nov-23 16:47:55

I watched the Piers Morgan interview, I know what he said, I am utterly delighted he is no longer leader of the labour party.

Anniebach Sat 18-Nov-23 16:41:10

No lie,he was there,

That was a lie put around to stop democracy Corbyn a peace activist has all his life campaigned against all forms of racism and puts his words into action. Speaking up condemning the Iraq war, Libya Afganistine ect and now the Genocide taking place in Gaza.
Starmer is establishment no change. Corbyn offered real democracy for the many real change.

It's difficult to see what values a LP which has abandoned basic principles will abide by. I certainly can't see anything which they wouldn't abandon if someone donated enough money or Starmer thought doing so might win a few votes.
The 56 MPs who voted for the ceasefire gave me a little hope. I noticed the Lib Dems voted for is as well. I wonder if they will become more radical than the LP again?.

DaisyAnneReturns Sat 18-Nov-23 15:56:10

It seems facts are missing from your posts (18-Nov-23 13:56:29)
even more than usual, Glorianny.

Making up things you think sound good or clever really doesn't make them a fact, just another contemptible untruth.

Grany Sat 18-Nov-23 15:52:30

Yes that true Glorianny

Starmer has jumped on the band wagon as you’d expect saying Corbyn should not be in the Labour Party for his stance on Hamas, on Piers Morgan. That is a lie.

This is what Corbyn said
I deplore the targeting of all civilians. That includes Hamas’ attack on 7 October, which I have repeatedly condemned in Parliament, in print and and at every demonstration that I have attended.

Peace is hard but possible.

The Green Party have a good manifesto, taxing the richest, public services, climate.

That is my choice.

Grany you do not want Labour, we all get that, but what do you want?

I’m voting for the Green Party has got my vote. I like all their policy commitments.

A real alternative to Labour

Thank you for sharing that Grany. We now know who and what you are comparing Labour with and can look at how your chosen party comes out against Labour and other Parties.
