Starmer’s Dilemma Over Palestinian Situation

This piece comes from the Conservative Party newsletter and is very even handed about Sir Keir’s awkward position. To be fair he has stared down the position of his Muslim MPs and Councillors so is taking a real decision.

Please acknowledge that this article sounds fairly sympathetic towards him.

So what do Grans think?

It's difficult to understand why anyone would make fun, or or denigrate, any group of people who wanted the slaughter of innocent people to stop and spoke out about it.

As far as Corbyn goes there was, when he was defeated, a video made by Joe Glasman who heads the CAA, an organisation even Margaret Hodge has described as "weaponsing anti-semitism. In the video JG thanks people for defeating Corbyn. He was seen as a threat because he supported the rights of Palestinians.

I find it unacceptable that the leader of the LP has to be someone who suits Zionists.
Or that the LP and Starmer are funded by people with an agenda
Starmer’s 2020 party leadership campaign was secretly funded by wealthy British pro-Israel lobbyist Trevor Chinn to the tune of $62,000

In June it emerged that a second wealthy pro-Israel lobbyist – South African business owner Gary Lubner – was set to become Labour’s leading fundraiser, personally planning to donate as much as $6 million to the party before the election expected next year

During the apartheid era, Lubner and his firm were direct profiteers from the white supremacist, Israel-allied regime which oppressed the majority Black population at the time

And before anyone asks I really don't know how I will vote in the next GE. I'm devastated to see a party which has always stood for equality and peace made a puppet for a right wing apartheid state.

Grany you do not want Labour, we all get that, but what do you want?

I’m voting for the Green Party has got my vote. I like all their policy commitments.

A real alternative to Labour

So, instead of trying to trash Labour constantly, why not start a positive thread about the Green Party and their aims?

Surely a positive approach might be better than all the negative posts?
The rest of us might learn something.

Eg why does the Green Party vote in favour of building development on Green Belt land?

Casdon Sat 18-Nov-23 10:13:07

You’ve lost me altogether now Grany. You mentioned the Not the Andrew Marr show, and the Forde Report in your post, but not the actual source you were referring to if I understand what you’re now saying?

@NotAndrewMarr

What more evidence do we need that Labour is undemocratic and Islamaphobic?

The Forde Report found labour has a hierarchy of racism meaning that any member even Jewish members who showed support for the people of Palestine were expelled from Starmer’s Labour Party.

From their own website - ‘Not the Andrew Marr Show is a weekly Zoom show that has grown from an audience of 100 people to over 500 people. And we are continuing to grow.’

Try and find references with just a little more credibility Grany, we are back in one man and his dog territory here.

It was a constituency Q&A session about the Gaza vote with Johnathan Ashworth which this Muslim Labour member was not welcome to join. Not about the Not the Andrew Marr Show

Grany I don’t mean to say so what but it’s very tempting!! How do you think the Uk government might have responded in 1939?

Grany Thu 16-Nov-23 13:05:12

The majority of MPs voted or abstained on vote for a ceasefire The majority of the people of this country do want a ceasefire, and other countries too.

tobyianathekid Thu 16-Nov-23 11:43:58

Grany

Starmer and several labour MPs are members of Friends of Israel and the Israel lobby meaning that they get money have holidays to back Israel are more interested in supporting Israel another country than that their own constituents.

I think Netanyahu the Israel government are practicing ongoing apartheid and occupation against the Palestine people. And now genocide Amnesty International reports.

7,000 Palestinians have been killed so far including children and thousands wounded. This is collective punishment war crimes.

I don’t think Netanyahu is interested in releasing hostages he want to kill all Palestinians. How can the hostages be released if the bombardment continues relentless.

I think both main political parties have blood on their hands.
RS and KS

In a YouGov poll over 70% want a ceasefire Thousand around the world including Jews have been on protests for a ceasefire.

The PM and Starmer are at odds with what the majority want.
I don’t think people will forget Starmer’s position of this humanitarian crises at next GE

Please stop the occupation Free Palestinians peace talks two state solution

The PM and Starmer are not at oddes with what the majority want. There was a vote yesterday in Parliament which demonstrates this and puts that discussion to bed.

Oh I dont know when there is a crisis of such severity, surely the whole world hangs on the words of Sam Fender.

maddyone Wed 15-Nov-23 23:46:44

In addition, I don’t think either Hamas or Israel will care less about musicians, Jeremy Corbyn and his brother, our politicians, or anyone else calling for a ceasefire.

maddyone Wed 15-Nov-23 23:44:50

I’m doing my best to forget about him, despite his obvious desire not to be forgotten.

Callistemon21 Wed 15-Nov-23 23:23:29

Well, it keeps him in the limelight, doesn't it, just when he probably thought we'd all forgotten about him.

Some of music’s biggest artists have called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza
Some of music’s biggest artists around the globe have backed calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

Jeremy Corbyn, alongside the Peace & Justice Project, has launched the ‘Music For A Ceasefire’ open letter, which has united artists, musicians and performers demanding the UK and US governments to call for immediate ceasefire following Rishi Sunak and Joe Biden’s reluctance to do so.

Anniebach Wed 15-Nov-23 22:39:00

Definitely not LizzieDrip they wouldn’t be at all concerned but many think they would .

LizzieDrip Wed 15-Nov-23 22:12:21

Does anyone think Hamas or Israel are looking at the outcome of a vote in the UK House of Commons? Seriously? No! It makes no difference what we vote for - ceasefire, pause, whatever!

I don’t cry much these days. Think it’s a post menopause lack of hormones thing. But yes, my eye’s welled up when I heard of her resignation because she’s in a job that means so much to her. When I do get teary eyed about anything these days it tends to take me by surprise as it’s totally involuntary.
