Starmer’s Dilemma Over Palestinian Situation

This piece comes from the Conservative Party newsletter and is very even handed about Sir Keir’s awkward position. To be fair he has stared down the position of his Muslim MPs and Councillors so is taking a real decision.

Please acknowledge that this article sounds fairly sympathetic towards him.

So what do Grans think?

Dar A ceasefire is needed because of the ongoing genocide, ethnic cleansing in the illegally occupied territories, a child is killed every 10 minutes. Then peace negotiations. UK America Canada and Germany should stop arming Israel they are complicit in this horrific onslaught.

Someone needs to stop arming Hamas, too, Grany.

I heard on the news somewhere yesterday that Al-Shifa hospital was built by the Israelis and includes a large underground shelter. Apparently far too large to hide Hamas in and that the hostages will be elsewhere.

If it is true that the hospital was built by Israelis why do they need to bomb it?

The arrest of the director of the hospital and doctors is appalling.

After a news item on BBC on Tuesday (I think) they showed a Fact Check report. In the report there were two photos of what looked like a suitcase. One photo showed one gun and the other photo showed two identical guns. The photos were taken from different footage - one sent to the BBC and the second to Fox News.

There were other anomalies shown by the reporter from Fact Check.

I think the Israelis knowing the layout of the underground shelter at Al-Shifa assumed that Hamas would have kept all the hostages together in that space. It is probably the only space in the underground system big enough to hold them all. But apparently Hamas has split them into smaller groups. and they are in the hands of different outfits, some of whom were not in direct contact. It's one reason the organisation has taken so long.
Of course the other thing which is called into question is Israel's statements that it is bombing to destroy Hamas. Hamas is obviously still widespread and units are acting independently. The bombing has not destroyed them, it has just killed thousands of innocent women and children

Oh! There is no such thing as a "permanent ceasefire". If firing ceases on all sides that is the end of war.

UN said land not homes have be taken

The arrest of Al-Shifa Hospital’s director and its medical teams by Israeli forces is deeply concerning.

Gaza’s health system is on the brink of collapse and continues to be the target of Israeli raids.

We continue to call for a permanent ceasefire and a path to peace

Director of the Al-Shifa hospital Mohammed Abu Salmiya, along with a number of other doctors have been arrested by Israeli forces.

I really don't understand the obsession with a ceasefire. Surely the first step is to remove as many of the vulnerable by means of a 'humanitarian pause', 'truce' or 'ceasefire' and then work on ending the war.

Just what is positive in arguing over a words which all basically mean the same thing but where, using a particular one may aid diplomatic discussions, but using another may make such discussions impossible.

Is that really what you want Grany?

No British mainstream media outlets have reported on Declassified’s recent findings about RAF Akrotiri and Gaza despite the President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides having to defend his government from accusations of complicity in Israel’s bombing of Gaza.

In answer to questions about the use of RAF Akrotiri by Cypriot journalists over the weekend, Christodoulides said: “There is no such information, our country cannot be used as a base for war operations”.

However, RAF Akrotiri has long been the staging post for British bombing campaigns across the Middle East. Declassified also recently revealed that 129 US airmen are also permanently deployed at the base.

The censorship of information requests from MPs makes it all but certain that RAF Akrotiri is being used for covert military purposes that the government does not want the public to know about.

It is likely the UK is sending material military aid to Israel during its bombing of Gaza, which has now killed over 12,000 Palestinians, although it previously told Declassified it was not providing “lethal aid”.

Since October 7th 1000 homes have been taken by Israel settlers in illegal occupied Gaza with help of IDF

Sorry GG13, that was a case of mistaken identity, I'm afraid. Time to go and do something more useful, I think blush

Can't read it Grany and don't really want to read the ranting of extremists - which is what you seem to be offering most of the time.

The people keeping our country safe need to be allowed to do so.

It wasn’t ranting of extremists it was an interview with an elected female Hamas politician.

I 100% agree with your last sentence.

Blimey Grany as a mother of a serving Officer in the U.K. Armed Forces, your shouty posts regarding national security are an insult to our brave men and women.

As for sending a military plane into Israel, I have already posted that the U.K. has armed forces at the border between Israel and Lebanon as part of the UN blue beret peace keeping force/observers. They will need constant supplies.

DaisyAnneReturns Thu 23-Nov-23 09:35:36

Having lived on one of the bases in Cyprus I imagine its use hasn't changed a great deal. I cannot imagine MP's, many if whom do not have nor would be able to get clearance, being given information willy-nilly.

Why did you need to SHOUT Grany?

Democracy may be for the individual but it cannot be run on a daily basis according to each individuals views.

UK GOVERNMENT BLOCKS MP QUESTIONS ABOUT GAZA-RELATED ACTIVITY AT ITS CYPRUS BASE
Exclusive: Ministry of Defence takes extraordinary step of censoring all requests for information by MPs about RAF Akrotiri on Cyprus, which Declassified has reported is facilitating arms supplies to Israel’s war on Gaza.

MP whose questions were blocked tells Declassified: “This is totally unacceptable in a democracy”
RAF sent A400M military transport aircraft from Cyprus base to Tel Aviv this morning
Britain’s Cyprus base has secretly become international military hub supporting Israel’s bombing of Gaza

So Israel has negotiated a deal with Hamas to release 150 Palestinian hostages in exchange for 50 Israeli hostages.

2 things.

1. Evidently, you can negotiate with Hamas.

2. Where was the international condemnation of Israel for holding 1000s of Palestinians hostage?

Children in military prisons for throwing stones at their oppressors up to 20 years in prison.

The Green Party want a ceasefire.

Challenged over that LBC interview, Darren Jones says people misinterpreted what Keir Starmer said because of the way it was edited and that he "very quickly" made it clear what he meant in a follow up interview #GMB

The interview wasn't edited. It was broadcast live. It wasn't misinterpreted. It was understood perfectly. Starmer didn't "very quickly" make it clear "what he meant". It took him more than a week.

Darren Jones is a liar. Just like his boss. They're also both Friends of Israel.

I think the poster may be called "ToryFibs" for a reason Grany.

Labour, as far as l can see, haven't promised a specific amount. At the Party conference they said they would introduce a minimum wage that takes into account the real cost of living if it were to gain power at the next general election.

Are you really so blinded that it's even worth repeating Tory fibs?

It’s extremely easy to promise a minimum wage of £15 per hour when you know you haven’t a snowball’s in hell chance of forming the Government that would implement this

TONY Blair is helping Keir Starmer build relationships with political leaders in the Middle East, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The National

TB illegal war supposed WMD

This is not a war Israel against Hamas

Israel are bombing Palestinians including woman children and babies in the illegal occupied territory of Gaza

Sadly UK America are aiding Israel arming, politically

What a state the Labour Party are in.

But you only read and repeat things that run the Labour Party down Grany. Why should anyone take any notice when your bias is so extreme?
