So far.

…..he owed her the courtesy of at least informing her face to face

I think he did it by phone - because he’s a coward

Yes indeed. I don’t like the man, I don’t think he’s a good PM. To sack anyone by phone shows very poor character in my opinion. I’ll be glad to see him ousted come the election.

NotSpaghetti Tue 14-Nov-23 23:45:58

I think that's highly likely Dickens grin

Glad I've never been her line manager!

^I think he did it by 'phone - because he's a coward.^...

Or maybe she refused to go in?

Well, I didn't think of that...

RS: "Erm, err, mmm, step into my office a minute Sue-Ella"

SB: "No"

MOBILE PHONE: Ting-a-ling, Ding-a-Ding, Brrrng-Brnng

RS: "You're fired"

SB: "Bitch"

I suppose it could've gone something like that. grin

Casdon is there any particular aspect of SB’s account which you disbelieve I wonder? I am surprised that it’s got to this point - but I think Sunak has shown very little skill in the way he has handled SB and her dismissal. I am inclined to give SB the benefit of the doubt.

So it’s true that matters regarding the government of this country are decided by people when they’re trying to get votes to help them become PM? And an unelected PM at that.

Yippee! The Conservative Party is ripping itself apart. Hopefully, former Conservative voters won't be able to vote for a party led by Sunak. If they can't bring themselves to vote for a party with an chance of winning the next election, it's great that they'll vote for one of the loser parties and split the anti-Labour vote even more.

Very damming!

ronib Tue 14-Nov-23 21:01:30

Well I don’t think so much of Sunak either.

Yes there is ronib. I don’t believe that she didn’t know beforehand that she was going to be sacked. I think she’s trying to make political capital in implying that Sunak is scared of her and daren’t tell her face to face. I think she’s a liar.

Yep!!

A horrible, truly nasty one.

ronib Tue 14-Nov-23 20:58:26

Casdon but Sunak didn’t have the courtesy to tell SB face to face. Probably not cowardly but arrogant? Probably thought SB wouldn’t be too much of an issue once booted out? Wrong judgement though?

I don’t believe her account. I suspect he told her in person some time ago, but regardless, it’s completely unprofessional to brazenly go against advice as a minister, and whatever the circumstances of your leaving a job to publicly criticise your boss and expect all your colleagues to back you is beyond arrogant. I think she’s lost support and respect over the way she has handled herself - I’m surprised if as many as 30 MPs are still willing to support her.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 14-Nov-23 20:04:01

I am sure the split reflected on GN between Tory voters will be reflected in parliament, and at about the same ratio as far as I can make out.

A council of war by the right was held yesterday and only 30 MPs turned up.

Braverman is going to find it hard going to try to attract Tory MPs support.

Firstly, Rishi Sunak was incredibly rude in not telling Suella Braverman to her face he was sacking her, simply informing her by telephone.
Secondly, she has discovered today, along with the rest of us that a deal was made with David Cameron a week ago for him to become Foreign Secretary, a week before she was sacked ostensibly for her criticism of the Police. Her article had not been reviewed by Downing Street nor published, James Cleverly was deeply engaged in his job as Foreign Secretary, and Cameron was nor even in Parliament.
I did not vote for Sunak because I did not trust him, and I was right.

Much as I dislike the woman - he owed her the courtesy at least of informing her face to face.

I think he did it by 'phone - because he's a coward.

I wonder if she'll have a Nadine Doris style book out next Christmas?

Sorry eazybee, I agree that to not have a face-to-face meeting was rude but while talks with Mr Cameron may have been taking place the time scale became rather more urgent after the newspaper article. So yes DC was being cued up for Foreign Secretary but the whole thing was speeded up as a result of Suella Braverman's actions.

"I may not have always found the right words, but I have always striven to give voice to the quiet majority that supported us in 2019.

[Suella Braverman"]

Quiet Majority????

Any kind of majority????

In the 2018 general election the Conservatives won a "landslide majority" of 80 seats in the House of Commons on the basis of gaining 43.6% of the votes cast - ie - a minority, not a majority.

Only 67.3% of eligible voters turned out to vote so this "landslide" was voted in by only 29.3% of the electorate..

29.3% of the voters is not any kind of a majority.

Over 70% of eligible voters did not vote Conserevative

This government has no real mandate from the UK electorate - quiet or otherwise.

It is truly absurd that the UK continues to be one of the only two undemocratic countries in Europe which elects a government by First Past The Post (the only other one is Belarus)

Perhaps in Belarus there is is some innumerate politician like Suella Braverman claiming to speak for the "silent majority" but it couls never happen in a democracy.

Smileless2012 Tue 14-Nov-23 18:12:24

She genuinely is as mad as a box of frogs it looks that way doesn't it. She seems to think she was doing him a favour by accepting the position in the first place!!!
