Michelle Mone has finally admitted she lied about the tens of millions of pounds profit they stand to make from their shameful PPE deal

She said her life had been "destroyed" by allegations about their PPE profits, even though "we've only done one thing, which was lie to the press to say we weren't involved".

She remains adamant they did nothing wrong and lying to the media isn’t a crime. Baroness Mone is also under investigation by the House of Lords for failing to declare an interest in PPE Medpro.

A truly odious pair of money grabbers who are now expecting sympathy for their plight.

It was Cameron who nominated her for the Lords.
They have no awareness do they. Arrogance in the extreme. What a disgraceful pair but im sure there will be many in the Commons and Lotds who benefitted with regard to ppe contracts. The whole thing turns my stomach.

Absolutely sickening….

Fleurpepper Sun 17-Dec-23 22:00:53

No fan of Laura K, but she didn't show them much sympathy in her interview.

What is the Legal situation re re-paying, and having to cover cost of proper legal destruction of useless PPE. They say that the money cannot be refunded as it has been put in a Trust Fund on Isle of Man. But surely the Government can order the money to be repaid from their own fortune, and for them to pay for destruction.

Awful, nasty, despicable people.

Now that The Crown is coming to an end, Netflix should commission the Michelle Mone story. Call it Lying is not a crime. Neither she nor her husband show a shred of regret that the gowns they supplied were useless. Why were they still payed in full?

Grantanow Mon 18-Dec-23 09:33:45

It's a scandal.

MaizieD Mon 18-Dec-23 09:59:29

The £60+million which Mone & Barrow collected from Medpro for their part in the deal represents about a 30% net profit from the £200million contract. Does anyone think that this is a reasonable return?

I am curious about this as I don't think that people investing through a 'normal' route, e.g shares or bonds, would expect a return of anything like that. But perhaps businesses are different from private investors...

growstuff Mon 18-Dec-23 10:01:38

Maizie The 30% wasn't even a return on investment.

I know that. grin. Makes it worse, doesn't it...

Though I wonder how Medpro paid for the dodgy PPE in the first place. Had the govt already paid them, or did persons unknown fund it?

orly Mon 18-Dec-23 11:32:03

This is the kind of case for which asset sequestration was introduced. What a loathsome pair

BigBertha1 Mon 18-Dec-23 11:33:56

Witzend I'll sit down beside you.

spabbygirl Mon 18-Dec-23 11:40:27

its sickening isn't it? How she can not see that photos of her on her yacht that we guess is paid for with our money is not going to get us riled I can't see, that she then expects sympathy for how her life has been 'ruined' is beyond me. I suspect the Tories will do their usual deal with billionaires, 'pay back 5% and we'll say no more about it,' sort of thing. Rachel Reeves is eager to get after the lot of them and I can't wait!!

Great idea. I’m sure Brasso would sponsor the series as this couple must go through gallons of the stuff to rub daily on their brass necks.

Michelle Mone receives more in a day for being in the Lords than I receive in a month for my pension!
It is pure greed ! Just how much do these reprobates need ? They make me feel sick.
They charged us over £300million for a product that was useless but still pocketed £60million for themselves now in a trust offshore in the Isle of Man!
They must refund every penny !
Totally disgraceful
Remove her title ! Kick her out of the lords!
How low can people get - unbelievable

polnan Mon 18-Dec-23 11:47:03

lying to the press? I see it as lying to us, the taxpayer,

red1 Mon 18-Dec-23 11:54:18

I heard they are no longer members of the tories, What!?
the whole thing highlights the corruption that goes on in high places, now lets lock up those disabled who are not able to work, the whole thing is disgusting, words really fail me.

Mojack26 Mon 18-Dec-23 12:15:50

Throw the weight of the law at them! Profiteering in a national crisis! Is that not illegal? Like in WW2....They should be made to pay the 60million? back. Totally immoral and disrespectful, to all of UK,if nothing else. She should also lose her peerage! I'm just disgusted and even more so as she is a fellow Scot. A downright embarrassment

Cossy Mon 18-Dec-23 12:19:52

They both, along with many other influential people who’ve profited from tax payers money being misappropriated, utterly disgust me, they should ALL feel the full force of the law! Sadly I think this will never happen in our current climate of it (seemingly) being OK to swear, lie and cheat in Parliament!

grannymags Mon 18-Dec-23 12:30:05

Mone and her husband should be made to put the 60m they made into the nhs

deedeedum Mon 18-Dec-23 12:57:45

As a peer of the realm can she be stripped of her "title" because she lied for whatever reason.

Is Michelle Mone related to Captain Tom’s daughter? They seem to have a lot in common…

Grannynannywanny Mon 18-Dec-23 13:22:24

They were sadly mistaken if they thought their interview was going to garner sympathy and understanding for their self inflicted predicament. It’s had the opposite effect and they are now deservedly being hung out to dry in every radio and tv discussion I’ve heard in the past 24 hours. I heard it said this morning that someone has finally trumped Prince Andrew in the most damaging interview stakes.

The interview was grim. But I did laugh out loud when she said their decision to offer their services during the height of the pandemic was in response to “a call to arms to all lords and baronesses” 😆

She appears to be so wrapped up in her wealth and delusions of grandeur that she really believes they’ve done nothing wrong.

Jess20 Mon 18-Dec-23 13:24:18

Just a thought.... Reading this after writing to my MP about the new government powers to snoop on our bank accounts if we receive state pensions - not needing either our consent or even knowledge.... So I guess MM knows the best places to keep cash safe and secure and a trust of some sort at a bank in the Isle of Man might be a good place to get our state pensions paid in future...?

Lucyd Mon 18-Dec-23 13:55:54

The sheer greed of MM and her husband makes me want to vomit. How much money do they need? Fabulously wealthy but still so grasping and selfish they would deceive and lie to accumulate more cash? Don't know how they sleep at night.
