I hope I am starting this thread ok, to follow on from the first one. I think we still have much to say.

Look at what the Israeli Ambassador has said about it. Yesterday Netanyahu said he would not accept a 2 State solution. He wants security control from River Jordan to the sea..

I’m sure he would say that after 7/10.

maddyone Sat 20-Jan-24 23:09:11

Yes Cadenza I agree, but I’m unsure how we move forward from here. I believe that Hamas have rejected the idea of a two state solution historically, and they keep firing rockets into Israel every day. Some sort of end needs to be in sight, but from the safety of my life, I don’t know how we get there. If my family had been murdered so violently as Hamas murdered people on 7/10 I’m not sure whether I would still think the same thing.

I don't know how anyone can any longer support this genocide that's going in in Gaza. There's consistent attacks on the civilian population, hospital and schools targeted, zero healthcare, little food, little water. Children subjected to amputation without anesthesia. Surely enough is enough?

Only 15% of Israelis support Netanyahu's government.

Netanyahu is moving further and further to the right for support from the most extreme in his government.

Jews sing ‘from the river to the sea ‘ rubbish

maddyone Fri 19-Jan-24 20:44:07

Oreo you are right. There is so much ignorance about the situation. Zionists for example, are Jewish people. They are not some different group, they are Jewish. As are Hasidic Jews, Liberal Jews, non religious Jews, secular Jews, and Zionist Jews. Right wing, left wing, just like every other society, Israel reflects them all.
Let’s remember that Israel is one of the only democracies in the Middle East. People voted for Netanyahu just as people voted for Hamas. Who knows what will happen at the next election.
From the river to the sea is most certainly not sung by Jewish people. It is sung by Palestinians and those who support Palestine, as it has been sung by people in England on their marches. It is a disgusting, racist song, and shows exactly what some people want!

Oreo Fri 19-Jan-24 16:16:00

You’re a bit mixed up susytish BN doesn’t want all Palestinians gone, they live in Israel, Gaza and the West Bank, tho expect he wishes along with all Israelis that they would stop attacks by suicide bombers and missiles streaming into Israel.
It’s Palestinians who chant from the river to the sea btw as they wish all the land were theirs.

susytish Fri 19-Jan-24 12:13:51

Whitewavemark2 Netanyahu does not want to give the Palestinians anything in my view. He wants them gone and all the land they now occupy for Israel. Some Israelis quote ‘ from the river to the sea’ meaning that is what they want. I am afraid it is the zionists, and not the Jewish people. I feel for the ordinary Jewish person. Unfortunately if you criticise Israel you are classed as anti-Semitic.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 19-Jan-24 07:42:52

I know that there are some Israelis who vote for him, but I think that he has lost the vast majority. When is their election?

I feel so sorry for the Israelis. They are definitely stuck between a rock and very hard place. , and have not been served well by their leaders. A two state solution was only ever the answer and should have been settled decades ago. So much heartache and bloodshed could have been prevented.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 19-Jan-24 07:37:20

He doesn’t want peace does he?

Unless you treat people with a modicum of respect you will never get peace.

growstuff Fri 19-Jan-24 03:44:22

Netanyahu has completely rejected the idea of a two state solution.

Where on earth does that leave the Palestinians?

Not only that but he has rejected any role for the Palestinian Authority in the government of Gaza.

The hostages don't seem to be being released at the present time.

So this thread title is a misnomer.

Yes I simply can’t understand it.

There was an agreement last time arranged by Qatar - so why can’t that be done again?

Grantanow Thu 18-Jan-24 14:36:00

Whitewavemark2 Thu 18-Jan-24 11:32:09

It is being reported that a proportion of Palestinians in Gaza are at the Catastrophic level 5 of hunger - the worst level with a likelihood of starvation to death. Many others are at level 3 or 4.

maddyone Thu 18-Jan-24 10:38:07

Let’s hope more aid gets through now because the situation is dire. Here in New Zealand we have little news on the ordinary free television in this rental, but we do have Al Jazeera news, and we watch a little of that when the grandchildren are not here.

maddyone Thu 18-Jan-24 10:35:15

Well we would hope so obviously, but the needs are so great in Gaza that I think hostages will be well down the list of priorities for the terrorists, but some have been held in ordinary apartments with families and so maybe treated with more compassion. We can hope.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 18-Jan-24 06:07:34

Aid, including medical aid has now entered Gaza. Some of this will hopefully find its way to the hostages.

65KL Thu 18-Jan-24 00:58:56

Yes the hostages have been living a nightmare . They will be traumatized by this for the rest of their lives and into future generations. Thus repeating hatred for generation after generation, history repeating itself . I don't know the solution , in a idealistic world we would say love can heal , but I doubt it . Am I pessimist or realist !!! Dont know .
I honestly don't know how they will be able to return to normal after their ordeal is over.

65KL Thu 18-Jan-24 00:52:05

Sadly when we are bombarded with images of horrific things day in day out we become normalised by the images .
I think we still have huge sympathy for both group of innocent people but all the talking about it dose not a bit of good . I dont actually beleve in 'the power of the people ' those up there dont give a damn .So therefore over time we are warn down - unless of course we are directly involved.

maddyone Wed 17-Jan-24 22:48:35

It doesn’t matter what it’s called, I was discussing the trauma that the hostages, particularly young, female hostages, are thought to have been exposed to during their incarceration. Sadly only 65KL has thought this worthy of discussion, which is interesting given that women’s rights are frequently discussed on here. This thread is about the hostages but empathy for them seems to have dried up on the whole. I saw on another thread that people were demonstrating in England again recently in support of the Houthis, but little support for the forgotten hostages. What a world we live in!

65KL Wed 17-Jan-24 00:28:43

oreowhy are the trucks being held up ? Do you think that they might get aid soon (, if that happens ), will make it right for all the people suffering over the past months --- it should have been allowed to come in all the time , there is no excuse or reasoning for that

65KL Wed 17-Jan-24 00:22:23

maddyone yes our new zealand news are rubbish as are our free channels, they have very small budget to run on . Most people do have at subscription tv or use internet . I get a huge range of news channels from around the world so therefore get opinions from all sides .
(Also you can't abort a baby that's at term that has a different name and best left for a different thread of discussion)
